Default Jumpy Movement On Campaign Map?

    Hi!

After a few months away from this great game I came back and downloaded your promising mod.

But I got a few problems ruining the gameplay for me.

I got a high end pc:

    AMD Dual Core CPU
    4GB of memory
    8800GTX gfx card
    Windows Vista
    ect.

but my gameplay seem to be unstable. When I move a character or an army from one spot to another on campaign map it does move but it jumpy. Kind of laggy movement. Why is this? I had this on another mod earlier also.

Is it the new bigmap causing it? Is there any way of fixing it?

    Thanks,

PS: I have even tried to use lowest possible graphics settings ingame and still it lags while moving characters.

Edit: I have changed my post Dave...

Is it the new bigmap causing it? Is there any way of fixing it because frankly I do not understand how people can play with this crappy movement. Well I may be the only one with this problem though but if others have it i do not understand them.
Actually if this made gameplay so unstable I would not be getting good feedback from so many people. Look through my forums and show me where these complaints are? Gee's I guess everyone else must be stupid then huh? How can people play with this movement? well a heck of a lot of people play mods with similar maps like DLV. Is this problem as bad as you make it sound? I dont think so. Simple solution: go play another mod that doesn't use a big map, or go play to vanilla goodbye.

??? What did I say to upset you dude?

if this is it: I do not understand how people can play with this crappy movement. Well I may be the only one with this problem though but if others have it i do not understand them.

then sorry if I put it out wrong. The thing is I am looking for smooth gameplay nothing more. But if you cant fix this just say so in a polite way.

I only asked a question. And normally people answer them politely if they can or not at all if they dont have an answer.

I downloaded your mod because I thought it may be worth playing.

    @Gomer_Pyle,

Did you even bother to download the patch and get the latest fixes before you came here to post your rant? no I bet. And as for my reply not being polite what do you expect from such a **** opening post? You come here and say the movement is crap and you dont understand how anyone can play this mod. Well a lot of people do enjoy this mod buddy so go and troll someplace else.

It was not ment as a bloody rant... I am sorry if you think it was. It is probably a language barrier from my side since I am not a native speaker of english. And it is not your mod I am having questions about. It is the reason for this lag and why people isnt bothered with this if they have this problem at all. Not seen any posts about these topics at all on this forum. I have been playing your mod abit now and it is great except for the movent thingy which isnt your fault. Seen it on other big mods aswell. I only seek advice on this.

I downloaded your files from: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=139048

I also downloaded and installed .Net Framework 3.5 which was mentioned in another post.

Again I am sorry if I stepped on your toes. I did not mean it they way you probably read it.

Gomer_Pyle I think the problem is with the Vista. I played this mod on both of my computers. My laptop using XP has less problems than my desktop using Vista, even though my desktop is higher end.

Apology accepted, I am sorry I was offended by your first post. I am just going through a difficult time right now and I over reacted.

I get this lag too. But only when I first start the game. It seems to go away by itself after a few minutes.

    I do use vista. Unfortunately.

A bit lag when Characters move on campaign map is, to me, no matter!!! Just important is the BATTLEFIELD!! and battles are stables and there is no lag!!! On the campaign map just makes little bad visual effect...anything else...where's the problem??
30BC: Ottaviano Augusto becomes the first Imperator, in his 44 years of principate he will bring to the empire peace and prosperity!
70AD: Vespasiano is the winner of first great empire's civil war, rebuilding Roman world after the Nero's dark ages.
98AD: Traiano becomes imperator after that the senateman Nerva adopted him,he will start a gold age for the empire getting it to biggest extension!! 117AD-180AD Adriano,Antonino Pio and Marco Aurelio administrate the empire during his richest and most pacific period, with their good administration Rome lives its golden age.
193AD: Settimio Severo wins the civil war started after the death of Commodo starting the Severan dinasty, his heirs will not be as good as him. 252-285AD Rome lives the peak of III century's crisis, onli the emperor Aureliano will be able to reunite the empire breacked in 3 parts and the great reformer Diocleziano will give to Rome militar, politic and social cohesion after decades of caos. 325AD:Costantino rules alone over the empire and christianity is for the first time accepted by the imperial government.

    Hi all,

I've recently downloaded this mod after playing Broken crescent for a while as it looks quite good.

However I seemed to be suffereing from the same prob as Gomer_Pyle with the campaign map lag.

My PC is relatively high spec (see below)

Winxp Home SP2 (all latest updates etc)
    Intel dual core 6600 2.4ghz
    4gb ram
    Geforce 8800 gtx
loads of spare disk space etc

so I don't think its down to graphics settings ... although I have tried all the options from low to best and lower resolutions (I usually play at 1280x1024 in vanilla and broken crescent no probs) and turning off the campiagn shadows, using shader v1 etc

Also tried turning off AV and antispyware software.

Then thought maybe there was a conflict with the other mods I had installed so uninstalled all mods, kingdoms, and vanilla Medieval .. deleted any left over files and clean the reg with cache cleaner

Then did a totally fresh install with all the official patches and then installed the mod and the patch but still the same prob.

Having done some searches on this forum and google couldn't really find any other ideas and was about to give up ... but did notice another post when somebody else wanted to play with the original map textures.

so gave the following a go (see below - copied from the previous post)

-First go to the base folder at SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\data\world\maps\base. Delete the map.rwm only in this folder.

-Now go back to the data folder SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\data and delete the terrain folder entirely.

-Then start the game up and when you try a new campaign it will take a few minutes to load (rebuilding the map).

This seemed to help and the lag isn't as noticeable now. It seems to just jump once when you first move a character/unit then move straight to the desired location without any more jumps - although I do need to play a bit longer to make sure.

    Hopefully this might help...

Like i said at the start this mod looks pretty cool so willing to persever with it for now ... although any other suggestions are welcome as it's still not quite the same as in other mods/vanilla.

Try this for lag issues when waiting for the AI to do it's turn, or while scrolling along the map area. Found when I had a toon highlighted it would get laggy, when I didn't it was smooth. I know it doesn't make since to me, but then I don't mod.

    @gkh1,

I made some map fixes in the mod patch which improved campaign map performance for some users. Not everyone has trouble with lag though and its hard to know exactly what I can do to improve things further. But I think you will find that mods with large maps tend to be more laggy in general. I've seen similar complaints in other mod forums about campaigns being slow.

What you did to remove the terrain folder entirely and delete the map.rwm is a good idea. You can also try taking campaign map shadows off and lower campaign graphics a bit. Best of luck anyway and I hope you are able to enjoy the mod.

I found that these instructions solved (perhaps) my repetitive crash problem; the movement still looks slow (not jumpy: simply slow) comparing with other Mods. However, this Mod is highly enjoyable, also with its slowness.

Also scrolling is more normal when you don't click on any army\character.
