    Default Total noob question...

    Hi guys
Sorry in advance for my ignorance
I've just bought the Medieval II gold edition having no former experience in strategy games, (I'm a flight sim dedicated player) and I admit I got a bit lost in the pages of the instructions booklet .
For starters, is it a way that I can just watch the action only, when a battle is resolved by the computer, without having to play it myself actually?

Hi spyros-elephant, welcome to the forums (I'm pretty new myself)! To answer your question, there is unfortunately no way you can watch the action of battles in auto-resolve and I don't think there is any way to mod that either. The best thing to hope for is to try and balance watching the wonderful graphics of this game at the same time as you're giving your troops orders. Sorry!

    Hi Spyros-Elephant,

Unfortunatley the guys are correct you can't do that.

However it is worth noting that some people on here do report that auto resolving battles does tend to bring more damage to your army than fighting it out yourself. But hey its your game you play it how you want to.

If your not to hot at the moment on controlling units in battle then have ago in the "Custom Battle" area. There you can vertually set up battles as they would be in the game and go through some different ideas before undertaking the battle in the campaign mode.

Beauty is here you can then sit back and replay the battle, analyse any errors and try again. Thats what I do sometimes.

to the forum, you should find loads of friendly advice here and just keep the questions coming.

    Good Luck

    Thanks a lot guys!
It's a pity that such thing is not an option, but it's not a big deal actually, after all at some point I've had to take the next step and learn to fight my own battles, considering the joy and sence of fullfilment a victory must be giving, especially when fighting outnumbered over an overwhelming opponent force...

    Thanks again !

    Thanks for the tip Bob!
I've tried this tip myself in a campaign battle, but my force was fighting so idiotic against a bunch of rebels that I had to quit the battle to prevent the slaughter...
I'll try again in a custom battle as well to see what will happen this time...

The AI is not the best part of MTWII so you'll loose quite some battles

No, actually it is possible to see an AI vs AI game.

Simply start the battle, group all your units and put them under AI Control. The AI will take control of your units and fight as they would normally. I just tested to make sure.

Heh, well the AI Assistance feature is pretty much dumber than even Easy Battle AI, but it's basically the only way to see AI battles.

    Good Thinking Bob.

An outside the box solution if you know what I mean.

Thanks Bob, for the kind words and rep.

I thought of another method of watching an AI battle as well. You could attack an enemy with any random unit, and use the army you wish to see battle as an AI Reinforcement. This will probably enable a smarter AI vs AI battle. I'm not sure if this works, but it's an idea.

Also, my name's not Bob. I thought it would be a funny name but you apparently beat me to it.
