Which version of Photoshop do you use/recommend?

I have Milkshape for modeling, but I'd like to get a copy of Photoshop for skinning, and am not sure what version of Photoshop is the best for the price. I'm not really in the market for dropping a grand on CS3, so would like to hear from some experienced skinners which versions they use, what the benefits are in terms of paying for newer versions, etc.

This question probably has been asked before so my apologies if I'm reiterating it for the 100th time, feel free to link to other threads where opinions on this matter are given if there are extensive previous answers to this inquiry. Thank you in advance.

Get gimp, its free and it will be enough for what you want to do. There is no point in purchasing photoshop if all you are going to do is mod total war with it. If you are dead set on photoshop I use CS2, it and CS3 are pretty much identical and none of the extra features of CS3 will be really useful to you. Download the CS2 demo, you can easily find download links on google and see if its what you need. But, I think Gimp will be more than enough for you.

. I'll fire up the demo and give it a try, good to know there is not a ton of "at this time" useful advances in CS3 "for my intended usage", saves me time and money

. As for GIMP, I've used it before along with a Linux ROM and didn't quite like it as much as Photoshop, but in the end if CS2 ends up not within my purchasing power I might fall back on it.

(Sidenote: Surprised no one has asked this question before, at least according to a forum search, you think it would be useful to an aspiring modder to know what the pluses and minuses of the various programs out there are :hmmm: )
