It has been a long time since I played RTW, and I can't remember if all of the current mods are for 1.5 or not. I hate having to delete everything just because I have the wrong patch installed, because it' rather slow on my machine.

Not exactly...Is TIC the first mod for 1.6?
TIC (The Iberian Conflict) is the first of the many to come minimods before the final release of RTR VII (! not 7)
You should download it (click here), it's amazing
Btw. for a complete campaign you should also download RTR 6 Gold
and if you have Barbarian Invasion (BI) you should (insteat of Gold) download the Platinum Edition mod switch (can be installed in the same map as TIC, saves disk space) + the Extended Realism (ExRM) mod of Quinn Inuit
With the ExRM mod you will use the advantage of BI, with the factions: Britons, Epirus and Galatians added (this mod is great fun too)

Can I do all of this using 1.6? Yes, I have BI
If you have a clean instal of BI patched to 1.6 you can do all this![]()
(and you need just one folder !!)
Edit: before you install any mod, make sure you have a copy of your clean BI instal so you don't have to instal it again when you want to play another mod
My Activision folder:
(in the RTR VII map there is just TIC)
And my RTR VII folder: (here also is RTR PE mod switch and ExRM)
(I hope the pictures clear things up a little, as it is quite messy)

If a game is a 'mod switch' version then it should be possible to keep all your RTW based games in the same game folder (i.e. the 'Rome - Total War' one).
However, like PatricianS I keep seperate game folders for each RTW based mod that I play and keep clean versions of various RTW versions (RTW 1.2, RTW 1.5 RTW BI 1.6). To me this method is the safest way to go - it does use more space but you could always take one of the mods off-line by burning it onto a DVD-ROM.

Just curious... What is the difference between your "Rome - Total War" and "Rome - Total War [Clean]" folders?
I would presume that the 'clean' one is vanilla RTW where some changes may have been done to the other one.
I keep a clean RTW 1.2, RTW 1.5 RTW BI 1.6 game folders - they don't have any changes made to them.
My 'Rome - Total War' folder is where all the official patches are applied. Until recently that was RTW 1.5 RTW BI 1.6 but then I installed RTW Alexander there which is 1.9 (according to the options menu.
My understanding is that the patches cannot be installed to other folders. Although bizzarly Alexander could only be installed to one of my mod folders - IBFD which has somehow managed to get itself into the registry (I presume).

I read on totalwar.com that Alex needs to be installed over 1.5 or 1.6![]()
