Default The U.S Election White v Black?

Hi guys, I have been following the democratic presidential elections a lot lately with some interest. The contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama seems to have become a battle between the white and black america. Voters in predomininatly black states seem to be voting for Obama. And votes in places like Texas go to the white candidate (theres a surprise). Doesn't all of this just show us the real social divide that exists between white and black america today? Of course many do not vote based just on the colour of skin. But there does seem to be a trend where areas that are black vote for black and white vote for white.

We are talking about the american elections here! the most important elections in the world. Surely colour should not even be a factor in deciding anyones vote? Does it worry you that someone may win the race based on their colour? This is such an important election for america and the world following the poor presidency of George W Bush. Whoever gets to the white house will have a big impact on Americas future foreign policy and its effects on world politics. Who in your view is the best presidential candidate? Yes it is a nice thought to think that Barack Obama may become the first black american president. But is this guy really up to the top job? What about Hillary? do you honestly believe this woman is the best person to lead America? would you trust her? What about John McCain? another puppet of Republican foreign policy?

I cannot vote as I am British but just for arguements sake I would like to see Obama win. Because I dislike him least and I prefer his policies. I'm interested to hear what you all make of the american elections.

    best

Texas caucus is due in a few weeks yet, dave. Anyway, I can see where you would get your points and I'm sure it is true to an extent, but I'd like to think that there are white people voting for Barack and black people voting for Hilary based on their policies and not on their skin colour - but I guess ignorance is bliss.

Phew, I didn't think it was... for a minute there I thought I missed something!

Yeah, I would say that the possibility is a bit too much for me to admit. The turth is, though, that Hillary has played the race card a lot more that Barack has. At one speech for a predominately black audience she went so far as to say that she "understood the plight of her people, the balck people."
...um... is there something about her that I don't know?

Anyway, I'm rooting for Barack, although to tell you the truth when the election comes I think I'd go for McCain with the expectation that Obama gets it, since I feel that McCain is honorable and I trust him. That's usually completely not how I vote, but in this case I think it's warranted.
Of course, should Clinton actually get the dem ticket, I'm going McCain faster than Speedy Gonzales running away from the Tazmanian Devil strapped to the back of the Roadracer...

Hilary Clinton has a huge black support base in her campaign, and some people don't see Obama as "black enough". So I don't really see it as a racial divide, but there are still some Confederate ****s who won't vote for a black president.

And John McCain is best in my opinion, he is far from "another puppet of Republican foreign policy", considering he is one of the more liberal Republicans. Obama would be great too, but never Clinton. And not because she's a woman, I just don't like her.

As Mississippi just showed many blacks are voting for Obama because he is black. Why else would they vote for Obama? They do fall under Hilary's category of voters(middle and lower class, economically concerned) yet they vote for Obama in huge numbers. White people are different. Many young Republicans(like the ones on this site) somehow agree with Obama on extremely liberal policies even though they are republicans. So if they dont agree with his politices why else would they love him? Most likely because he is black.

Texas is 35% Hispanic, and 11% black. Hispanics love the Clintons, and I'm betting that put her over the edge more than any "racist" vote.

That may be so but it does seem like in the news reports that Obama does get better results in black areas.

This is not a question about people being racist with their voting, but I do wonder if a lot of people would just prefer to see a president of their own race? Lets say there was an Hispanic candidate would all the Hispanics want one of their own as the president? Lets face it a lot of people don't cast their votes for the right reasons, but they are free to vote how they like ofc. I even suspect that many women voters go for the best looking candidate sometimes in elections lol. I just hate to think that the best candidate might not win it in the end.

Really? I didn't realize there were still confederates in the United States, of course my horse has only taken me through the west.
