It's not necessary, and it will be a drain on your finances to some extent until things over there are stable. That said, I found the series of battles I played when over there to be fantastic fun. Having a completely fresh army ride down the natives with cavalry, then a slightly reduced force having to fend off ambushes by thousands of Aztecs. Then, a tiny, almost horseless force holding a mountain pass while waiting for reinforcements to get there.
Great fun.![]()
I love you all!
well it wont be that much of a drain if you take lots of merchants with you(whom you pack into a fort all together
shhh! Samir sit! )
the more the merry!

Both times Iva taken it, I walked over the indians. Then again I did kit out 4 full stacks and sent them all at once.
if you get merchants on all of the trade resources it can make lots of money for you
By the time you get to America you will be getting 70 grand a turn anyway. They are fun battles though, especially if you play it historically and make sure to only send one stack at a time, so you are outnumbered like an earlier poster said. The money is irrelevant though unless you purposely skipped many turns in the game so that the late play would still be competitive.
Economically I don't know if its worth it. But if you think about the fun its completely worth it!Just go ffs!
Its good fun!

Well im about to go there as spain, man do you guys know about the gold and ivory resources down in the lowest african territory (below spain) man my merchants are gettin 860ish a turn and there like 7 resources down there,
Yes, but the point is that you don't even need that money by then.
Im always in need of cash. lol maybe i enjoy having too large armies.
Err. Trying converting all those extra castles you don't need in the butt-end of your empire into cities and investing more in farming early on and trade later on.
Make use of the free upkeep militias in cities and only use the cheapest of units for castle garrisons.
Can't imagine you still having much money problems in this game after that.
well 13 to 18 full stacks of heavy cavalry cost a hell lot of money...

The cities are not worth all that much in terms of plunder. Fill your ship's agentslots with merchants and priest and you will be sure to convert them into good christians, and earn a pretty penny in the process. The tobaco and the chocolate is worth even more than the famous aztec gold!
You dont need to take the cities, but sending a ton of merchants over there and squatting on all the gold brings a huge source of money.
I dont find the america resources that profitable? Like the chocolate only gets like 30 to 70 bucks. Where as the Gold and ivory in africa gets 870ish.
Yeah done and done lol, I never have more than 3 castles ever. And only use free units n cities. I do however have forts between spain (me) and france, in those mountain passas, but they only have like 4 to 5 units in each.Err. Strange! At the moment I'm playing on my spanish campaign, which I already finished, I'm just taking the entire map... Anyway! My merhants earn some 200 florins more on chocolate that they do on the gold.
As you may be able to see on this screenie, my dear merchant, Alfonso, is currently earning me 1638 florins every turn, selling chocolate. (Quite impressive!) When mousing over the gold which one of my other merchants, Simon, is selling, it shows that my elite merchant, Alfonso, would be able to earn me 1450 florins every turn selling that. (Also quite impressive, but I think Alfonso is sticking to his sweet, sugary profits.)
It depends on where your capital is located. The futher away from America your capital is, the more money will be generated by your merchants. Seeing as Ring-A-Ding almost conquered the whole map he must have moved his capital somwhere in the middle of his empire, which is far away from America.
Man you have expert merchants, the highest Ive ever had was 7 finance?
But I see what you mean, at the moment in my spainish game my like 4 or 5 finance merchant will get 130 per turn on chocolate but still like 250ish on gold. Where as in africa the gold and ivory still get around 400 to 900 to 1200 depending on the merchant.
It's always great fun to send a massive horde that way.... I send 5-6 full stacks of just heavy cavalry.
