not quite so easy to steam roller the barbarians using this system of recruitment.

you seem to have missed my point, it IS easy to steamroller over the barbarian factions, but if you use the army configeration as set out by the wise and wonderfull CenturyX, it becomes a more drawn out and protracted business altogether.

Oh yes it becomes a process. But this process is a realistic process as the romans in real life didn't just take over the barbarians in Gaul, iberia, Germania, etc in 10 turns. It took them DECADES even though they never fully controlled Germmania region but that's a whole other story for another time. And I'm not wise but I' am wonderful
Since the RTW engine is limiting with recuiting and represenation of the roman army and Auxilia system I see that this system helps in represent it properly.

Just a quick note:
I even use this system for my pre-reform armies. For one thing, it's good training for when you have to keep track of all the replacements, etc., plus it gives a tremendous sense of cohesion and drive to the opening game. Having smaller support stacks following around the main legions with 'generals in training' at the helm just adds so much of a touch of narrative to the game.![]()
Yes, it really adds another dimension to the game it adds the feeling of brotherhood amongst your legions. Like they know each other and will die defending each other. Since I stated before that the RTW engine is limited about the recruitment process and how legions are raised and maintained. This system in a way fills in the gap of the limitation.

For me I personally do it Napoleon's way.. a Vanguard, Rear Guard, Middle guard and the Flanks. Though I do not use full stack units for these.. each "Guard" would be half stacked at most.. This is how I organize each "guard"
Vanguard: Archers, and some cavalry and a handfull of Auxiliary Infantry
Middle Guard: Named legion with artillery.
Rear guard: Auxilia infantry
Right Guard: Mostly Light auxilia (Missle) supported by cavalry
Left Guard: same as Right guard
Just throwing this out there. And that's the way I play. May not be realistic. But i Use 2 units combined and i've waded off many ambushes into Germania, and successfully beaten back the Gauls as well with as little money used as possable. Though, I will definately try this "system".
Napoleon's way is a great way I was actually thinking in the early stages of the Auxilia system to base some pats off of Napoleon's way. But at the end I found some flaws in it so I switch and made it up.
I hope my system works out for you.

Well, first off thank you for your kind words. And you brought up a good point about the number of men loss/killed number of victories for each legion a specific name for them. All that you have said I have been working on. There is a big gap between the pre marian legions and the marian ones so I guess it will be only fair to have them in this system due to that we love them.
OH YOU HAVE NO IDEA what I have in store for you and all the other RS fans.![]()
