    Default ROman Standardized Legions

I dont know if anyone else is having trouble with this, but when i play as Rome it is a real hassle only being able to recruit from certain regions for certain legions. I think the idea of personalized legions is brilliant, but when ive taken a full stack to upper germania, and then need it refilled, instead of going to the closest legionary outpost, i have to go all the way back to its home city. While that might be historically correct the game we play isnt, and the losses we reaceive arnt equal to that of a real conquering (without loss) roman army. So i need to be able to refill my legions at the closest point of my frontier, so that my armies can continue to push forward.

I have an idea how to Mod the files so that i can get one type of the 35 legions in all the provinces, but this seems like a really complex thing to tamper with. Could anyone give me a write up of what id have to do in order to achieve one legion instead of 35 different ones.

    Thanks alot,

Why don't you take advantage of your auxliaa. They are there if you want to refresh your legion, they work well in battle as far as I'm concern. Use the technique in which century x has inspired me to use(Thanks pal. The method really helps!)

The auxilia, from my understanding, are cheap to be recruited by the masses. You don't just need to use them as garrison troops, use them in the field. You can have your regular army, your calvary and your auxilia/merc army.

    My auxilia army compilation.
    1 medium calvary
    4 archer units
    9 auxilia infantry, not skirmishers
    3 seige equipment

You don't really need a general for them, so any calvary would be fine. This army wouldn't neccesarily be a regular combat army, just a supporting army. As your legionaires begin to slowly, or quickly, be killed throughout the campaign, reorganize by combinging your cohorts, then you can add where infantry is needed. Same with archers, and you can let them have the siege equipment, so your regular army has extra slots to fill with whatever you please. You could even have a few cohorts in this army. Ex: 7 auxilia, 2 legionary cohorts. That way you can fill your cohorts fastyer with heavy infantry. You should also have spots open in that army to carry extra mercenary units you may want later in your campaign.

    My calvary
    2 legionary calvary
    2-4 medium calvary

Once again, its a reserve so no general needed. This could travel with your army as well for extra support in battle (if you want to waste them ) or to reinforce your calvary. I even use mine as scout units. They could be seperate from the auxilia for more travel distance and save the auxilia infantry reserves spot.

Your army can trvael as followed.
    L
    A C

    L
    C A

    L
    A
    C

    C
    L
    A

Or any other way you can think of.

If you really just want legionaries instead of this idea make this army which I also use

    4-6 cohorts
    2 calvary
    4-6 auxilia
    2 archers

They could be reinforcements to your legion, of course the auxlia being a escort.
Even if you don't like that, simple do this: set up "ambush path." Simply have some units of scouts(lights) lined up onj a path from the legion to you. You will see all armies in the path and can take out any rebels running about.

Works rather well all these methods. Don't be afraid to use your auxilia, Merrick. They are actually decent . It's assumingly easier to do than recoding a game :p.

Unless the Romans were gods, they most certainly did take losses when they fought, and replaced them with recruits from often distant places.

There are two things you can do to minimize the hassle here....first of all, replace losses with Auxilia, as 'cheatham' suggested...as a temporary measure while you bring up reinforcements. The other thing you can do, which I happen to do myself, is when you're Legion starts getting further away from it's recruitment base, or you know it's going to be, recruit some extra cohorts (which will not be for fighting) and then move them up to where the Legion is and put them in close city or fort.

Sometimes, a Legion will get so battered you have to take it out of action...in which case, bring in one to replace it. All of this is historical, and regardless of whether this is a game or not, the whole idea of RS is to provide a challenging and historical Rome to play. That is not the case with an RTW Vanilla 'recruit a legion everywhere' setup.

I for one like the whole system as it creates a new military and economic dynamic to the game. Weather you do the auxilia legions or the replacement cohort, your ecomomy is going to take a bigger hit than it would on any other mod.

Stratagically, (sp?) you have to plan out line of supply routes to get replacements to where they need to be as quickly as possible. I have found that it opened up a new weapon for my enemies to use against me.

Pontus has spies and diplamats throughout my greek and macedonian provences, where many of my legions are recruited from. a diplamat ended up bribing a few cohorts of V Macedon, leaving its legion without replacements for a long time. Luckily, I had all but won on that front, so it didn't do much damage, but if I needed those replacements sooner, it would have made life very interesting for me .

Now, I have to spend more money to hire assasins to counter the enemy agents, as well as built forts at stoping points along my supply routes, plus recruit troops to garrison them. It's great fun... or am I just strange like that?

    1. open up construction tab or building list.
    2. right click on field of mars.
    3. right click on the legion.
    4. look at the part where it says "AOR: _____ "
    5. plan ahead.
