Default British Pupils 'to take allegiance oath'

    Pupils 'to take allegiance oath'

School-leavers are to be encouraged to swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen under new government proposals being unveiled on British citizenship. Pupils would give a commitment to Queen and country in ceremonies akin to those for new immigrants.
Former attorney general Lord Goldsmith, who conducted the citizenship review, said the aim was more social cohesion.
Teaching unions said the plan was un-British, and the Scottish Government has also dismissed the idea.

Now, I personally don;t think school pupils should have to swear allegiance, this is a ceremonial aspect for joining the Military or Government etc. i.e. Whats the point of making them swear, after they leave school, unless they are trying to make it out you are not a British Citizen until you prove yourself in school?

It will never be implemented, it's a disgraceful idea and swathes of school leavers will simply laugh at the suggestion. I agree with Baroness Kennedy in that "the symbols of a healthy democracy are not to be found in empty gestures and I'm afraid I see this as an empty gesture."

Not all school leavers will laugh at it, I'm sure a whole bunch of them can use it as an excuse to further bash immigrants 'non-integration'.

Also shouldn't Allegiance be earned through trust? I see it as an excuse to get people to be totally loyal to the government (because they cant seem to achieve it through trust) as opposed to the Queen, who doesn;t really need our oaths.

The Queen already has my allegiance.

Yes. All you Brit's meet the queenie at one time or another. It's on all your sitcoms. You practise bowing for hours, then she comes and sais "Helleew", and your're so nervous you headbutt her by accident.
Then you run about trying to manage your hotel while some old lady sais "Would you like to see ma pussy?" and pulls out a cat from under the counter.

Why should school leavers swear allegiance?
MPs no longer have to swear allegiance to the Crown.
Sinn Fein MPs can use Parliamentary facilities and be paid and they don't swear allegiance. This is a half baked idea.

O? They no longer take the oath of allegiance?

OK, more specifically Sinn Fein MPs don't have to take the oath.

Sinn Fein members don't get a seat in Westminister because they refuse to swear the Oath of Allegiance.

Not quite, at the moment they can't take up the seat.
But they can still claim all the allowances.
I'm just pointing out the 2 faced-ness (is this a word?) of the proposal.

I find it weird how "Monarch and Country" is "un-British", considering the Brits managed to teach it to half the world.

"Hey, ****, wassup? Mmmm-mmm! Baby got back, C-what'm-sayin? 'liza, you floatin' ma boat, sherjizzle ma nizzle!"

It would never happen. But Aussie kids would. And some nations in Africa turn out for the Queen like....like she's Royalty!

Well, ruled under it perhaps. You mean white settler countries?

Just to add, its not only swearing an allegiance to the Queen:

They should be rather good at it I'd imagine. Hows it any different from that yankee tradition of swearing allegiance to the Flag of the US?

So Britain taught monarchy to the world?
