    Default Need some advice...what now?

K i just took the last of the papal states cities in the area around italy, i wasnt excommunicated or anything before i just wanted to take over. Of course once i attacked i was ex'ed but i thought if i killed the pope and took the cities then i'd be reconciled by the new pope, but the last city i thought he had is gone, the popes dead, im still ex'ed, whats happening? Do i not get reconciled even if the papacy is defeated, or does he have another city somewhere else, but then wouldnt i still be notified that a new pope or a puppet pope had been set up?

The pope cant die. lol. He will move to another territory donated by another fraction. There should be a new pope around somewhere (how many cardinals in the college?)

    i'd advice :
    1)find where the pope is
2)gave him one region,if u have some far away form your mainland (Jerusalem
    fits perfectly)
3)send one diplomat and give him up to 400 fl/turn
4)ask him for ceasefire when your relations improve (won't be easy to acquire ceasefire)
5)when u got ceasfire u need new pope or new faction leader to be reconciled

EDIT:Rome usually comes with theology guild hq so i would suggest to produce a lot of priests(which came out as cardinals if you have HQ) and
soon college of cardinals will be yours

Omg so even if during the battle i got the little video of the general falling and the guy saying "The enemy king lies slain!" or blah blah the popes still alive? Sheesh good thing i did a safeguard save before i attacked his cities.

no he is dead, just that a new pope is elected the next turn as long as there are priests and cardinals around (even your own )

he does not even need a province, he just roams around europe until he gets either a province from someone or conquers one. (happens only with a very violent pope though)

you get reconciled if you stop harrassing him, get the diplomacy working as told or if your faction leader dies.

I remember in Medieval I when a faction was defeated they reappeared with huge stacks of soldiers. I know that doesnt happen in Med II, but when u say the pope roams around until he conquers a city will he appear again with a huge army in the Rome area and try to take back his cities? And i've been axed from the church will my cardinals still stand a chance of being elected? Will i have the right to vote in the elections?

emerging factions was awesome, made the game unpredictable

back to topic - give him one of your regions, makes him happy. I liek to annoy him and give him Florence or Naples, near Rome but not near enough

I personally enjoy the cursades he calls to retake rome (if you dont own rome) haha I always get my army there asap (usually by boat) and then take rome, sack it haha and then sell off every single improvement lol gets a good amount of money and doesnt matter cause he always asks you to give it to him next turn lol. Then my cursade army goes through sacking every town in itally (usually cause the fraction that killed the pope in the first place owns itally and your now at war with them) and selling off all the improvements lol. I just do that til my cursade army cant win no more lol then I let it die. So one cursade through italy gives you a cool 100k or more lol. They all get taken back off you really fast (usually rome back off the pope too) then repeat next time round lol. Good fun.

Ok, this the my answer to your question, firstly the pope can YES, he CAN be killed, but the popes position CANNOT be killed, it can only remain vacant. If you kill the pope then, the seat of the pope will remain vacant until a new pope is elected. Just think of it like your stomach, your stomach is the pope seat, and the food you eat are the pope, they come and go, but your stomach which is the seat of the pope will always be there no matter what.
Incase what you want to do next is to wait and play normally and keep a check on the pope scroll, when a new is elected, you will be notified, though you will NOT have the power to elect him since you had just beaten his ass. After about 10~15turns go and ask for a reconsolation, he will ask you for a massive amount of cash, just give him the freaking cash and he will be very very happy man and your best friend after that.
I was born chivalrous, but situations made me a dreaded.
