We've been discussing it for a while in the Dev team, but we haven't reached a clear consensus of what we want to do yet.

To be perfectly honest, I'm committed to RS as long as anyone is willing to work on it....from the Republic to the Fall of Constantinople. I had originally envisioned this as a series of campaigns spanning the millenia.....in each case, 'Rome Arises'. But, that may be a little ambitious, I don't know.

The problem with going to Empire is going to be a very drastic change in the basic foundation of the game. When we, as a pretty small team, start getting into having to change the way buildings and cities look, then your talking about some major graphical changes. MTW2, as far as I have been able to tell, will easily retain a Roman Era look and feel...I doubt that will be true of Empire. May be wrong, but the changes from RTW to MTW2 were pretty significant.

So what am I saying? I think RS3 could be built on the MTW2 engine.......I still have an inkling to create the best dang 'Antony and Cleopatra' era mod there ever was, and that particular event in history was a major one in term of Rome's eventual rise to global Empire. The engine itself may lend to better ways to do it as well, who knows?

After that, well, the skies the limit.

And our major skinner, Tone, has said that after RS2 is released he is taking a break.

I would love to see this mod continue past RS2. But since they don't want to continue on to MTW 2. There really is no other game to mod on. Unless We all wait for Empire Total war. BUt hey the RS team will tell us what they will do when the right time comes. Just enjoy the mod now and worry about that later.

    I agree.

RS1.5 is already really good mod that I reckon I could continue to enjoy for ages even without RS2.0

RS2.0 will be a blowout. It'll smash all the other mods, I think, and I believe I'll be hooked on it for even longer.

The amount of work that is currently going into RS2.0 means the team will need a break afterwards for sure

Yeah, I'm going to be playing for a while. But apparently I hear now that there are issues with the way M2TW handles the alpha channels and this can cause real issues with new models that require transparent parts. So it's not that straightforward.

I don't see why people would discuss Medieval II when 2.0 is not even released yet,its long way to go, and its written in the stars.

cough... on a personal note: M2 isn't that enjoyable of a base game. I'm curious to see how PI manages a Classical setting with that engine.

My experience exactly. I was 'profoundly disappointed' when I got into it. Aside from the fact that the era is of no interest to me, my biggest disappointment was that it was inherently hard to mod it from the get-go.....why? When so many people hoped otherwise? And it seemed they corrected some issues, while breaking other things that irritated people even more.

    I just wasn't impressed.

Alright, there's something to be said for Teutonic knights (I'm a fan of all things German) but I was extremely dissapointed as well. It looked pretty good, but... well I liked the map better in RS, and the battles felt a bit... flat.

On a side note, if a single general gets caught in the field, he doesn't have to die, charge the lightest unit. He'll break due to morale and retreat, running back with full movement (even if he had none). I think this is how the computer retreats. Whywe can't default to that, I don't know.

I'd much rather they continued working on the RTW engine, perhaps creating a series of campaigns as originally envisioned.
In general M2TW is a worse game from a playing standpoint and (in my opinion) a graphical standpoint, I much prefer the simpler graphics of RTW.

If CA ever release R2TW, then perhaps RS for that, but otherwise leave it as it is, on RTW only.

I guess my fear is that all the work that I've done in skinning and modelling will become obslete if people transfer to better game engines, so I started a thread on the Dev forums...."Where to after RS2?" which we've been discussing. But if a large part of the fanbase were to stay playing RTW/RS2 that would change things a bit.

I don't know about others, but I'll continue to play RTW mods for as long as my operating system supports the game.
