Default Problem with the castles and cities.

I am playing staintless steel 5.1 version, and I got a big problem with the castles upgrades. I am playing leon-castille and I am at 120th~ round or so. And still I got only 1 Fortress, which I took from the Aragorns, I can't upgrade my castles (which I've had at castle level for the past 70 rounds) to the fortressess. it annoys me cuz french, englishmen or byzantine have already 4-5 or fortressess, while I got only damned 1 >.<

is there any bug fix or so about those casltes? I'd be happy to quick answer :F

SS is slower than vanilla and most of other mods. It takes more time to get to higher level castles and cities.

This was a deliberate choice to extend gameplay and allow people to have more fun with early units before they start using all-elite armies. I liked that choice.

If you want to speed things up, send a good general there and improve farming quickly. Also keep in mind that AI is getting bonuses to their growth, so you have to really do your best here.

I got all buildings made possible at the castles, all I can do is change them to big cities. Anyway, I caught french fortress, that had 5900 population, whily currently my best castle has 5600, still I can't change it to fortress... >.< I can do gunmens and cannons, but I can't do feudal knights, that's funny lol

Just wait until they get more population. Walls upgrade for castle will show up. You will also get a message about it being possible.

Maybe you just need a better general there.

That's funny, coz usually I have a "problem" with too fast development. Most of my castles are citadels, and many cities either large or huge, by the 1300. I'm playing on H/VH or VH/VH.

I like to keep every settlment, castle or city, governed by some guy, and usually its easier for them to develop Chivalry then Dread, so they additionally give significant growth bonuses.

I would even like to see increased settlment upgrade requirements, by some 25-30%, to keep more steady pace, more historically accurate, and also more challenging. Currently, I have to keep myself from building top tier proffessional units (I had all neccessary buildings by 1250) and wait AI to develop them, to keep things more interesting.
