Because of biased media? I think so.

You ask an average person how many jews died in ww2 and they will most likely tell you 6-12 million, or even 10 or something close to the amount.

Ask them how many others died in ww2...they will be like...huh??

Why is this? Why do we only learn about the holocaust from ww2 in schools? I am positive the japanese and ustache were far more evil than the germans but that is not the point, the point is everywhere you like the media (western) is so biased towards jews.

Call me an anti semite I don't give a damn, that fear tool of being labelled a racist because I wish to discuss this issue will not work on me, I have nothing against anyone of the jewish faith and truth be told, I admire the jewish community for being one of the smartest groups of people on earth, if not, the smartest.

This is true. The Russians suffered the worst, but so did the Germans, more people died in the bombing of Dresden by the Allies than in either of the Atomic bombs dropped on Japan.

I don't quite understand what the title "Jewish Sympathy" relates to. I think most people who have attended school in the last 40 - 50 years, (in the UK) will have a knowledge of the Holocaust, but this does'nt neccesarily translate as "sympathy" for Jews in todays world. If your trying to relate this to modern Israel, certainly in my country, the holocaust is no barrier to condemnation or criticism from the media or political groups whether it is warrented or not.

Well it does tie in with today, because Israel seem to use the holocaust card as defence for crimes against palestinians for the past 50+ years

Shrug the objective of Japan wasnt to wipe the Chinese off the face of the planet, that is the difference just like it wasnt Germany intention to kill every Russian. Im not saying 6 million Jews being killed is worse then 20 million Russians or millions of Chinese Im just saying that given Hitler's goal was to exterminate an entire race its natural people will mention Jews first when talking about death in WW2.

1939 there were aprox 17million Jews world wide, 1945 there was 11million...today there is 13million.

And the same number of Slavs and Communists who were also systematic?
Hitler planned from the begining to eliminate the Slavs, but the Jews was reactionary choice his original intent was to make them go away.

I have only read the first post but I was always taught of the other atrocities during WW2 etc. Maybe because I am in AP classes, regular classes miss so much.

That figure doesn't account for the number of Jews already living in the ME and the USA, as I'm sure there were several million between the two. As for Russian Jews, I'm not sure...they might have already left Russia (majority) after WWI. Berlin had a large influx of Russian Jews post-WWI, and those probably left for the USA--they were the rich ones.

All of those are tragedies no one should have been killed for ethnic or political reasons. Especially the Communists thats the real tragedy, Communists should have been forced to live in their own system in the U.S.S.R.

The holocaust becomes less and less meaningful these days though because it has been mentioned too much. I feel bad for those Jews who really were affected by the tragedy.

Anyway, I personally think the Rape of Nanking was probably more horrific than the holocaust. The difference between them is only total casualties. I recently read a book about the tragedy which shows pictures of Japanese soldiers trained with their bayonets using alive Chinese prisoners. YUCK!

Oh definitely Nanking ranks up there was one of the most horrific acts/blights of 20th century and yeah Im sure if the Japanese could have they would killed every one they were capable of until they felt "comfortable" enough to control them.

I thought my social studies teacher sucked. I guess I was wrong compared to what you seems to have learned in school. My teacher didnt even teach the holocaust because it upset him too much. Instead I learned about Japanese atrocities for 2 weeks. The Japanese only fell short of the Nazis in that they had no organized plan to wipe out the Chinese. They planned to and did use them as slave labor and as training "tools" for Japanese soldiers.

I dont think the Holocaust is talked about too much. It should be. The more its talked about the worse closet anti-Semites who minize the holocaust will look. Also, at least in the Czech Republic the main issues with the holocaust that were brought up when I was there were the murder of the powerful Catholics. In Theresienstadt, thousands of Catholics were butchered just like Jews and the Communists. In Poland, the complete annhilation of the Polish-Catholic clergy is only second to the near annhilation of the Polish Jews. If any of you ever go to the Holocaust Museum in D.C. one of the sections is about how the Nazis killed every clergyman in Poland.
