    Default Lmao, Pope owns himself

    im sure most of you have seen this before sometime in your campaign, (im playing ss 5.1 with the fix etc)

    about 20 turns in (may differ) the message will come up "Fall of Rome!"....

    it's like wth?

    The Papal States need to be changed because the rebels overtake Rome and there's little they can do about it, not even launch a crusade because it isn't a target

    id provide screenies but most of you have probably seen it...

    I too haven't encountered this at all, my Pope is usually someone with an attitude, you mess with him and he pwns you like a newb

    Well this happened in my current camp. Yub the rebs stormed the Vatican and booted the Pope out. The problem is he will disappear somewhere and playing as a Catholic faction you lose the ability to liaise and crusade through him. The remedy to this is by taking back Rome ASAP from whomever. Shortly thereafter you should be prompted by the Pope to hand back Rome to him, then you are all set.

    How do you do that, and what can be acomplished? I've never seen any additional diplo options, besides normal map exchange, give regions, money, attack other factions etc.

    One on the Byzantine win conditions is to hold Rome, so if you capture it from the pope what happens?

    Do the Catholic factions just go mental and blitz you...does he beg for it back?
    "Can you believe it, Ariadne?" said Theseus, wiping the blood from his sword. "The Minotaur barely defended itself."

    The pope certainly won't like you. The other factions won't go mental on you, that I can tell. I've seen the papal states at war plenty of times and there weren't a lot of changes. The most damage he can do is call a crusade, but I'm not sure if a crusade can be called against an orthodox faction.
    There's a bigger chance you can see the papal states go mental. In my current campaign the pope has conquered four settlements from Milan and I hope they will go on an all out war. I've seen a thread on these forums ("I've created a monster" was it's name) where the pope was on a rampage against all other factions after someone gave him a few provinces.

    I've seen the "Fall of Rome" message once as well. I was curious to what caused it and saw that the city was in the hand of rebels. He took it back eventually.

    A crusade can be called against any faction - as long the town in question is a 'crusade target' in the descr_regions file - it is very easy to mod yourself;

    However I'm not sure if Rome is actually a target, and if it is - the more important crusade targets overwrite it.

    Those regions in descr_regions.txt define a list of "default" crusade targets, if they are not occupied by a non-excommunicated catholic faction. If England takes Jerusalem on a crusade, Jerusalem won't appear in the list of targets for the next crusade. Even giving London the "crusades" resource won't make it appear as a target.
    A crusade also can never be called against a non-excommunicated faction. I'm fairly sure you can't do them on orthodox factions as well. Since they cannot become excommunicated, they are never available as targets. If someone can verify wether or not they have ever had a crusade called against an orthodox faction, we will know for sure.
