    Default FAQ SPQR QUESTIONS

    how to :

    1) minimize the toolbar in real time battle :

Go to your Rome folder, and open preferences.txt. (in the preferences map)
Search for ''MINIMAL_UI:FALSE'' and change FALSE into TRUE. by (^Gr8^Xander)

    2) change unit scale :

if you whant to change your unit scale you must do this AT THE START of a new campaign. so go to the options menu take video settings activate the show advanded options and change the unit scale in how you want it to be.

    3) deselect units :

just press enter ( here you go tenth and valerius )

    4) change formations :

go to your CLEAN installation of RTW in may case its F:\cleaninstallofrtwversion1.5\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data and look for the descr_formations text file there you wil finde how to reform your formations.

    5) how to activate the movie cam :

open the properties of your game icon (select the icon right click it select properties), in the shortcut section you need to change the target with - movie_cam.
    like this
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -movie_cam

    6) how to change real time battle looks :

Some things to add more realistic look ( a few minor changes; savegame compatible ):

All things can be found in the Preferences.txt

Disable the green arrow markers under the units:

    DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:False

Take care, that every army arround will appear 100% to the battle:

    UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:TRUE

    To allow changing settlements names:

    EDIT_SETTLEMENT_NAMES:FALSE

    Disable Auto-Save ( to avoid Bugs ):

    AUTO_SAVE:FALSE

    Disable the annoying Unit Banners:

    SHOW_BANNERS:FALSE
    by (24Gamer)

Vista will block any attempts at modifying your text files. You need to move the preference.txt to your desktop, edit it, and replace the old one.

    7) add new music in your own game :

first off all you need MP3 music files to get this to work.
best way to do this is give your new music the same name with a nr so you know wich music is the new one and wish is the old music.
like new_music1, new_music2 and so on. you place your mp3 files in the following folder : C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\sounds\music
when this is done you go to the C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data folder and open the descr_sounds_music file (notepad) and here you can add your music in.
now go back to C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\sounds and DELETE music and sfx file (note do not delete the idx files)

    8) how to take a screenshot :

place your camera view in the angle you like and press Prt Scr.
look for the picture in your tga folder.
it will look like this :

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\tgas ( it will be Activision or sega )

    9) how to post screenshots :

first you change your targa files to jpg files. (possible with photoshop, paint, ... and so on)
afhter this you start uploading the files with imageshack. ( http://imageshack.us/ )
when this is done you go to the last link you can see the one that says direct link to image, copie it and paste it back between the [img] ... [/img] tags.
for exampel [img] http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/3461/horsiessx4.jpg [/img] note do not place the space between the [img] stuff and the link ore it will not work.

    10) how to change city names :

To change town names take a look in the preferences.txt and change Change_settlement_names:FALSE to TRUE.
now you are able to change the city names ingame. all you have to do is double click the settlements name while on the settlement scroll. thx to (24Gamer)

Changing settlement names will cause the garrison script not to work on that settlement. Its named based.

    11) how to fix units feet problem :
to fix this problem you should turn on the unit shaders. you will finde this in the game options and video seetings.

    12) how to add the senat as a playabel faction :

Made the Senate to be playable in Lt's SPQR mod for Rome Total War.
Version 6.4, not using the super-factions addon.
    All credit goes to Lt.

    --------- ---------
    --------- UPDATE 20-02-08 ---------
    --------- ---------
    Added pre-marian and post-marian units!!!
Marian reforms trigger is controlled by the Romans faction.
    --------- ---------
    --------- /UPDATE 20-02-08 ---------
    --------- ---------

    The download contains three files:
    - descr_strat
    - export_descr_buildings
    - export_descr_unit

    First back-up the original files.

Download the file, save it somewhere you'd like to, then:

    1. descr_strat
    1. Copy the downloaded file descr_strat.
    2. Go to: X/Program Files/Activision (or The Creative Assembly) / Rome Total War/Data/World/maps/campaign/imperial campaign.
    3. Paste the file.
    4. It will ask you if you're sure to replace the file, click Yes.
    5. Now you can play a new campaign as the Senate!

    2. export_descr_unit
Now you can play as the Senate. However, you can't recruit any soldiers. (only Praetorians and Archers I think)
To add units, follow the next instructions:

    1. Copy the downloaded file export_descr_unit.
    2. Go to: X/Program Files/Activision (or The Creative Assembly) / Rome Total War/Data.
    3. Paste the file.
    4. It will ask you if you're sure to replace the file, click Yes.
    5. Now the Senate has all the units you need. However, you can't recruit them yet;

    3. export_descr_buildings
Now it's time to make the units recruitable. What I did is make all units recruitable through the Government buildings (palaces etc).
    1. Copy the download file export_descr_unit.
    2. Go to: X/Program Files/Activision (or The Creative Assembly) / Rome Total War/Data.
    3. Paste the file.
    4. It will ask you if you're sure to replace the file, click Yes.
    5. Now you can recruit units and generals.
(The Preatorian Guard is a recruitable general, not a cavalry unit.)

    Pre-marian:

    Post-marian:

    Important:
Do NOT click on the ''Senate'' tab in your faction menu. Because you are the senate, the game will CTD! (Crash To Desktop)

    Here's the file;download.

Marian Reforms happen when you, or the Romans faction build an Imperial Palace somewhere in Italy besides Latium (Rome).

Preatorians are also recruitable after marian reforms, it's just an old picture.
(thx ^Gr8^Xander for PM me this information)

    13) how to install multiepel mods :

    - first install Rome Total War in a folder on your hard drive you can call this folder how you want (i called mine cleanrtwp1.5 clean = clean install, rtw = rome total war, p1.5 = patch 1.5) and patch it with patch 1.3 and 1.5 becous all mods for rtw use these patches.
    - when you did step one you can drag the activasion ore sega folder of your install to an other folder, best way is to make a folder with the mods name so you always know wish mod is in what folder ( for spqr i made a new folder called spqr) and copy, past the clean install in to the mod folder.
    - install the mod you want to install in the correct folder and your good to go.

    14) how to make borders disappear :

the file you want is data/descr_sm_factions.txt

just make the factions primary and secondary colours the same and the borders will disappear
    (by Atticus)

    15) how to add a site link to your signature :

add the image you whant to use as a signature. select the picture and press the insert link icon in the advanced post mode.

    16) how to turn off battle time when your in campaign game:

When at campaign map, press ESC and choose game options, then check/uncheck "No Campaign Battletime Limit". (by Ejergard)

EDIT : FOR NEW STUFF PLEASE PM ME WITH THE THINGS IN THE PM MASSAGE I WILL ADD THEM IN THIS POST

thx to all the people who posted this stuff in other threads and people who pm me.

I have a very odd problem...
My preferences (The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\preferences\preferences.txt) file says:

SHOW_BANNERS:FALSE, but my game shows the banners...

DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:FALSE, which according to whats up there should eliminate the little green arrows, but they are still there!

UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:TRUE, but if I have more than 2 armies in a battle, only 1 of each side will be in the battlefield...

This is just very odd and it had never happened to me..anybody knows whats happening? Could it have something to do with windows vista?, because my previous pc had xp and nothing like this ever happened...

    @ yaelthecruel

I also had a problem with my preferences.txt file.
I wasn't able to change MINIMAL_UI from True to False after i changed it before ( i tried it but didn't liked it )
So i copied the Vanilla RTW preferences.txt and it worked.
maybe you should also try to get a clean preferences.txt back and try to change then...

In my experience, Vista will block any attempts at modifying your text files. You need to move the preference.txt to your desktop, edit it, and replace the old one.
