Default a Song of Ice and Fire mod?

    Has this ever been contemplated?

Probably the greatest fantasy series in contempary times, and still going strong with A Dance with Dragons coming out this Autumn.
George R.R. Martin's world of Westeros is ideal for a Mod, so being quite new to the mod scene, i was wondering whether anybody has attempted this?

It has been contemplated and they even started a whole forum for it on some SoIaF site. I'll see if I can find a link. But the last time I checked, which was probably three months ago or more, they seemed to have died.

I agree that this series would make a great mod, but I think it would be best served in M2TW.

So there is no mod for a 'Song of Ice & Fire' that is completed for MTW1? I think it would be must better suited for MTW1 than MTW2 imo. I would probably play it anyhow for MTW2.. but I don't know.. MTW2 lacks the gritty nature of Westeros in my opinion.

I've looked at the ASOIAF mods all over for any game.. seems like there are so many started but none ever get finished, people always get tired of trying to make it. I'm surprised there isn't any 'official' ASOIAF game out there.. but I guess that's understandable why there isn't, the books are not done yet.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a fantasy-based series of books, currently also being adapted into a serie for tv. It is a series that describes the events before and during a great war between human nations, and several fantasy creatures thrown in.
It is well known for not placing magic, fantasy etc in the first place but humans and political intrigue. It is a good series but can be a bit dull at times.

And I think it would make a good series but if no-one ever finishes a mod, then I guess we'll never enjoy it.

I think the best course of action for anyone doing this, is to make a "workable" simple edition of this mod, probably just include the custom map, houses, starting stuff.. and that's it. Then from there move on. The reason.. it seems like no one ever completes a ASOIAF mod no matter the game, they seem to always die out. It always seems like people always bite off way more than they can chew.

Westeros: Total War seems to be going pretty strong and nearing completion.

It's doubtful any M2TW mod that is a a total conversion could be nearing completion - except perhaps one that had a huge amount of work that was able to be carried over from RTW.

It is certainly true that completed fantasy mods that have been completed to the point of stable playability could be counted on one hand. Goodness knows how many have been started and died, or are languishing because of the seemingly impossible-to-stop habit of new mdoders biting off more than they can chew...

ASoIaF is really more of a matter of "fictional medieval mod" than true fantasy ala LotR (and hence requires less work, 95% of units could be M2TW reskins) but MasterOfNone's point still needs to be made, the ratio of successful mod releases of any kind to announced or mooted projects must be 1:10 at least...

There was an ASoIaF project announced for RTW (Westeros Total War) but it eventually died (team members going AWOL IIRC, a particularly frustrating problem) and it was resurrected for M2TW, then went into hibernation. Now, if I understand correctly there are two seperate ones on the way and looking promising (nothing increases the chances of success more than having a mod leader willing and able to code, skin and map themselves) Hopefully they can be combined, it's a setting crying out for the TW engine even more than LotR or the like IMO.

Since I've never modded a MTW game, just how hard is it to mod the original MTW just for the following changes..

    1. The Westeros map with 30-50 areas.
    2. Including 9-10 houses (only the big ones).

Sure that's extremely vanilla, but is that itself a ton of work?
