Papal have disappeared

The papal states no longer own a province. They called a crusade on me so i destroyed them. But i assume some heir has survived in some tiny army that has been hidden away somewhere because the faction lives on. It's not fair i want the crusade to end. Speaking of wich he crusade will end once i destroy them right? Any tips on hunting down a missing pope?

The crusade will end when your city gets taken or the crusade fails, 20 turns iirc. A new pope will be elected when a priest, bishop or cardinal of sufficient piety is available. Have fun finding him.

not necessary they as to be aleast one cardinal in order to have a pope

but there's practically no chance you can fairly kill all cardinals without cheating.

Yeah, you cannot destroy the papal states. So probably he'll get a province from a fraction with a lot of papal favor.

while you cannot destroy the papal states. you can kill ALL priests and the pope, until a new priest is produced there will be no pope and no crusades.

of course it is quiet some work to get that far and is probably only possible with cheatin in a reasonable ammount of time, but still it is.

there was a thread like that a few months ago where we tried to figure out how to do it.

Lol that would have taken ages, but cool to kill all the priests in the game.

To remove the crusade either:
a. Kill the pope that called it.
b. Kill all the generals that are leading a crusade.

After a crusade has failed (or succeeded), the next can only be called after 20 turns.

In my game I haven't got a pope and a cardinal for like 20 turns (using SS).
20 turns ago one got promoted but I immediately assinated him (without cheating 90% chance)
So it is possible!

If you want to be able to destroy the Papal States, I think if you edit the desc_sm_factions file and make them able to have a family tree,

Then you can destroy them -

I didn't realise you couldn't destroy the papal states. Consequently i found the new pope as soon as he got voted into power, he was hanging around outside rome. I quickly took it upon myself to kill him and every other pope until one of my own finally became pope. But now even he is on my back for attacking people. Is there any way i cn control the pope and make him my puppet? Perhaps i should just kill every pope until there are no more cardinals?

The way to the control the pope is being nice to other catholics and building lots of churches, killing the popes doesn't help monkey ears.

I think you can; but as long as there is an eligble replacement, you will always have a Pope.

I took all the Papal States in one game (Vanilla 1.2) and the Pope ended up hanging out all by Himself near Marakesh. I just let him be.

Sort of: Send a diplomat to a Papal State territory. Give the Pope 100 to 300 florins (depending on the results you want and how bad you have been) per turn, every turn. Optional and more expensive: build cathedrals if you want an extra boost. Even without the cathedrals, watch your papal favor grow. Soon he will be in your pocket.

Of course, it also helps to vote for the winning pope during an election. But continual bribes can even overcome a faux paux in this department.
