Default A bunch of questions about the mod

Hey I have a series of questions about the mod, I checked the stickies but couldn't find the information I was after.

    • Is the mod historically accurate? I don't mean to the extent that eb is but at least no fantasy units like vanilla
    • Can someone give me a list of factions?
    • Did the mod change the speed of the units? I was very disappointed in eb and rtr because they made the units go really slowly ruining the units animations and cinematic battle I have come to love.
    • Also can someone give me a link of where I may download this magnificent mod?

I would like to add that this mod looks excellent and the unit models look stunning.

Here is the Link to download the mod: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=65725

The mod is not historically accurate, they do not go by BC or AD they just go with another system, I can't remember it at the second since I only started playing it too. They put the system in because if it was historically accurate then what would be the purpose of playing as other factions? I think one of the team members posted that somewhere.

Sorry I don't have a list of the factions.

The mod goes by Ab Urbe Condita--the Roman way of keeping years. This is to get around a crash that always occured at a specific year in BC.

    Factions:
    Rome
    Carthage
    'Gauls'
    'Germanic Tribes'
    'Iberians'
    Epeiros
    Macedon
    'Greek Cities'
    Pergamum
    Sarmatians
    Dacia
    Ptolomies
    Seleucids
    Pontus
    Armenia
    Cimmerian Bosphorus (Greek kingdom)
    Parthia
An additional Free People faction that makes the rebels non-pushoevers (unplayable)

There are no fantasy units (that I've seen).

As for battles, I'm not sure, but they're the most cinematic in RTW mods, in my opinion.

Yes. look at the previews. We give pics on the last preview Mace.
showing where we got the info. In the spartan preview the only thing that isnt historical is the Spartan Generals helmet and captian models. We used the old Corinth for those to give honor to the 300 at the hotgates. We researched from writings of historical accounts, Tombs artwork and most common libery information in the greek langage and learned alot

    • Look at the previews we have made already.

    • No, matter of fact DVK and others have the spirits in which makes the game run better. And of course how new or old is your computer and vidio card ect.
    • Also can someone give me a link of where I may download this magnificent mod?

To be honest, I don't really check other mods. Only used to play RTR till I fell in love with RS. And yes, the forum lives because it has so much support

About the RS2 release, well, we can't know it for sure. It really depends on how much time/help the dev team has :p. So if you want to help, it'll be greatly appreciated, and will make the mod a step closer to release.

This forum has the advantage of using a mod that was recently released (or an update was not that long ago). Also it depends upon the time of day that you look at the forum. A few minutes ago there were 27 people in the Roma Surrectum forum and 20 people in the RTR one (which does have sub-forums).

The only recent release from RTR was The Iberian Conflict (TIC) in the new year. There was quite a flurry of activity on the board then. However, as TIC is only a mini-mod with only two playable factions it's shelf life is limited. However, the AI in the battles is very interesting and it acts in an intelligent manner. It is a campaign that can be revisited.

The RTR team used to have our own forum but due to technical problems a while ago that is not being used at the moment.

I am sure that the EB people will also state that they are still working on their mod.

What exactly do you mean by historically accurate? The factions, especially in the west, grow at a much more realistic rate, and your economy doesn't linearly expand as you capture cities, you get much less income from cities that were not historically in a particular faction's region. I would strenuously argue EB has many historical inaccuracies, and many people confuse detail with accuracy, which isn't correct. (Not harping on them, but I can play the hardest setting with the hardest team and walk over everyone, much more difficult to do that here.)

    Romans
    Pergamon
    Syracuse
    Cimmerian Bosporan
    Pontus
    Parthia
    Armenia
    Seleucids
    Greek Cities
    Macedon
    Gaul
    Germanic Tribes
    Samarians
    Epiros
    Carthage
    Spain (iberia)
    Getae (davia)

The date system means 'From the birth of the city' or something similar, and means since rome was founded. It helps with a CTD at a certain date, and it's easy to make a date conversion.

Unit strategic speeds are much increased, especially with roads. The map is a larger scale as well. It also plays 10x faster because every turn doesn't take minutes to process.

The unit list for Rome, in particular, is stunning, as they've got... at least 28 different legions, and regional auxilia and cavalry. The cavalry in Germany is MUCH different for the romans than that in Egypt.

[edit] One minute and I lose out to two other posters... *sigh* Although it shows people really like this mod

Roma Surrectum 1.5a is sorta like a 'Beta' that turned into a real mod. It isn't 'historical' in a lot of respects...although the Romans are very historical...because at the time it was put together, I\we knew a lot less about the period than we do now.

RS1.5a includes Roman units by 'Ferres', which are beautiful. Shields on them by Tone. New Dacian, carthaginian and Iberian units by Tone or loaned by EB. A TON of Webbird's very nice Barbarian, Greek and eastern units, some RTR units, and a smattering of others...without which RS1.5a wouldn't exist. I am very grateful to all of them for the use of their artwork. However, RS1.5a is a 'lead-in' to RS2....which we have been working on for a year, I think (I've lost track!). It will be a combination 'historical as possible', along with snappy gameplay, new traits and many, many buildings, even more historical depiction of Rome, a new map based on the old Mundus Magnus, and, well, a ton of other stuff. The faction previews say it all as to what's in store.

Yeah...the RTR forum was great. They were the first to give us a home, and they're good people. I miss it.

My understanding is that the intention was to resurrect the forum after TIC had been released. There appears to be little activity on that front. All the old posts are still available to some of the moderators. They still retain the rights to the '.org' site but not the '.net' one. The '.com' one was taken by one of the team leaders at one stage and sold on to someone else.

At one stage when the forum went down all the topics were backed up and had to be returned to the main forum. However, they had lost the titles on the threads and some poor souls (including me) had to read through them and determine where they belonged and what title to use for them. I think when I started to get involved there were over 10,000 threads (not posts) to go through. In the end it got quite brutal to get the numbers down.

The main problem was that the final disruption to the service took months - the forums were up then down a lot. I think many players were lost during that period along with most of the RTR team. I am sure that you know that the teams can change composition quite often (at least that's my experience of the RTR team over the last three or four years). Some hang in there.

I think many people simply don't appreciate the effort made by the developers of mods. After all it's all done in their spare time and is all unpaid labour of love.
