Default Which Guilds do you usually choose/wait for?

Typically I wait to get Merchants Guilds in most of my cities. I wanted to find out what guild others find value in.

Occasionally I will get an assassins guild, but I don't really try for anything else. The details generally seem too lack-luster to wait for them.

What guilds do you use, and why?

It all depends on who you are playing, as England I have no need of a Theologians Guild, but as Spain or the Templars its a must have. Merchants Guilds are good to get, but one Explorers Guild and several Masons Guilds are good to have. I usual have one Thieves Guild, and again depending on Faction one Assassins Guild. Military wise, its great to have one or two Holy Order Guilds at the start as they give great units, but with the change in Swordsmiths Guilds, they have far less value now.

As an islamic faction I would try and get at least one Horsebreeders Guild, more if possible, for the rest its Merchants, one Explorers, a couple of Masons, and see what come up.

I am working on a fix to the guild system that overhauls what guilds are available. The poor AI can't cope with the current system.

I always found masons guild to be utterly useless.

Sure it decrease the cost of buildings, but it become avalible so late, that you have build most buildings by that time anyway. And the extra spear militia, halberd militia or whatever militia you get aswell it also pointless at this time.

I normaly get 1 theo guild, 1 ass. guild, 1 thieve guild and alot of merchant guild as it improve economy in every settlement you get it in.

In castles i always get a swordssmith guild unless i play england i have a few woodmans guild.

I build Joannites everywhere. Quick access to very heavy elite infantry and cavalry is better than any other bonus.

I know I released a guilds file for 4.1 and thought I had for 5.1:hmmm:, anyway could do the same as with my version you get less thieves guilds and imo a better balance ie you can actually get a masons Guild early on. Might do one for 6.0 as it has new buildings.

I wish all guilds were balanced allowing people actually use all of them.

Now getting horsebreeders or masons is just impossible, spies and assassins ones are useless most of the time, priests is useful only when bordering infidels which is not the case for 90% of factions.

We're left with Joannites/Santiago/Montesa (Templars are useless, they give only cavalry, and you need heavy infantry more early than heavy cavalry) and Merchants which bonus (+10% trade is better than pretty much anything else.

When I play with Byzantium, I like to have Theologian's Guilt, cause my priests are more experienced so i make conversion more easily and they can beat the blasphemers, heretics and witchers more easily! I also like Assasin's Guild, because it helps me to have experienced assassins, to slay catholic priests and Cardinals, enemy's generals, and make sabodages in the cities, so to weaken them.
