I finished reading Brideshead Revisited yesterday. Waugh just writes so beautifully, highly underrated. And the way he managed to convey the sense of time
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
when Charles, despite having only been absent from Brideshead for a few years, Waugh manages to make it seem like an eternity. Not just to Charles, but also to the reader. And also, for the first time in any novel, I felt a great sense of sadness when it was first written about Marchmain House being pulled down.

Collected Stories of Raymond Chandler. The complete collection of short stories written by perhaps the greatest author of detective fiction, it comprises the tales he wrote for pulp magazines like Black Mask during the 1930's. While not in the same standard as his more famous novels, the distinct and influential style of the author is immediately apparent in these yarns: the wit, the elaborate descriptions, the characters who vividly come to life in the pages, and the realistic depiction of the seedy underworld of a bygone age.
