Read that last year, in Roma as it happens. Great read indeed.
I am reading 'We need to talk about Kevin'. Very good, other than the rather offputting fact that it is American. No offense, but there is something about Americans that makes them incapable of writing a book that is both well written and absorbing. WNTTAK is the latter - thought provoking (highly harrowing in fact) but rather heavy going.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.
A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

Absolutely. I've read it twice now...once didn't do all the nuances justice. Even more powerful if you have kids.
I have a feeling the movie will be decent - but nowhere near the quality of the book. There's just something about the written word that's close to impossible to translate to film.
I'm currently reading "With the Old Breed - At Peleliu and Okinawa" by E.B. Sledge. One of the best, if not the best, first hand accounts of combat in the pacific theater in WW2.
I trust I make myself obscure.

Mailer has written quite a few books (he died a couple of years ago) that are worth reading.
Anyway, here's his wiki bio
