Been having trouble finishing Amber Spyglass given the stress of the week, so I started and finished The Songs of Distant Earth by Clarke instead.

Definitely enjoyed the novel a lot. Might have enjoyed it more than Rama and Childhood's End. I'll have to think about it.

This weekend, barring any unfortunate stressors, I should be able to finish both Amber Spyglass and Son of Neptune. I'm reading the Percy Jackson overall series out loud with my fiance so the reading is MUCH slower than I usually can read.

Edit: Started and finished Zia which is the sequel to Island of the Blue Dolphins. It's not as good as the first one but it was still pretty good as a sequel.

    Now onto Amber Spyglass

I can assure you that it is a facade.

Finished Amber Spyglass, somewhat disappointed in parts of the story and I felt it went on a bit too long. Overall enjoyed the trilogy and it was pretty much the perfect anti-Narnia that I needed after reading that dreadful "allegorical" series of "children's books". Will need to read The Magicians series to fully rid myself of the stain of CS Lewis though.

I have NO idea what I will read next. 66 books down and I am already close to reaching my extended goal of 70 books after the initial 52. I suppose I will try for 80 but I don't know if I can realistically read beyond that unless I start finding a bunch of sub-300 page books. If I DO go that route it might be time for me to start the "Read all the books I was too young to understand but was still forced to read in school" sub goal that I have on the back burner. That would definitely get me there. I already have The Giver ready to go just for such an eventuality and Island of the Blue Dolphins could even be seen as the unofficial beginning there since I completed that over the summer.

We'll see what happens. Either way I'm going to need a break for the rest of the night because of how dense Pullman's trilogy was for me.

Finished Conqueror's Pride by Timothy Zahn. Three books in one weekend is a pretty successful weekend.

I may find something else before I go onto book two of that series. We'll see how the week goes. I have a feeling a handful of short books will get read this week considering how busy I think I will be.

Finished "The Giver Quartet" this week (books 68-71)

Didn't realize until recently that The Giver had sequels so of course I had to. And it was a lot darker than I expected.

Not sure on what to read next.

    Good Omens
    Conqueror's Heritage (Book 2)
    Star Wars X-Wing (Rogue Squadron)
    Star Wars Old Republic
    2001 A Space Odyssey
    Starship Troopers
The Magicians (Anti-Narnia trilogy 2 electric boogaloo)

Those are the ones on my list right now.

Good Omens is such a good read, somehow even better than the show itself.

I love the His Dark Materials Trilogy. You still have the 4 short stories and The two Books of Dust, The story is not done. I might read the Giver, the Magicians Good Omens aswell. The Giver was Dark, how so, found the movie to be uplifting.

I just finished the Dresden Files and is reading The Expanse Books.

Been on a Star Wars kick while I ramp up for reading Dune. Will probably read Dune starting next week. Eventually I need to get Wheel of Time too.

I've read wheel of time... Its sooo long. I wasn't super sold on it, but it was nice to follow the growth of the characters through such a dense story. There's over 1200 named characters, a lot of them super interesting, but whose fate ends up one among many loose threads. The main characters have satisfying arcs mostly. I never stopped being weirded out by the whole sharing thing. You'll know what I mean when you get to it.

Epiiiiic!!! Mazipan! Malcolm and Alice are great. But there's some very hard scenes in the book. In a different way than the hard scenes in others.

If you guys like fantasy must reads off the top of my head are

    1) Obsidian Path (Michelal R. Fletcher; trilogy -- She Dreams in Blood is great, also a bit dark)
    3) Sworn Sword (James Aitcheson; trilogy)
    4) Malazan Book of the Fallen (all of them)
    5) The Last Kingdom (it's the first of a series)
    6) The Black Company (first of a series)
    7) Shadow of the Exile (first of two -- incomplete trilogy)

Decent books & More popular ones
    1) The Grey Bastards (trilogy)
    2) Prince of Thorns (first of a series)
    3) Prince of Fools (separate series)
    4) The Way of Shadows (trilogy -- maybe shouldn't have mentioned this one, he got more popular same with ML)
    5) The Way of Kings (series or something -- decent)
    6) The Name of the Wind (series)
    7) The Demon Cycle (series -- kinda decent)

Actually fair warning about the above -- I read over the list again and thought they're a wee bit dark. Apparently my favourite books are more about the journey of conscience, not dissimilar to say - The Elric Saga, worth reading btw if you're interested in that sort of thing though I doubt you'll walk away thinking 5/5, more of a 4/5 with the sense it should be a 5/5 but you weren't satisfied with how everything ended up. I'm sure I could scrounge up some lighter fantasy ones if anybody prefers those.

If you are looking for more books about war, of the crude and brutal kind, I'd suggest you to read from Sven Hassell

First book is probably full autobiographic, the others are basically novels. Still a great read, I bet no one else has been as good as him to describe the psychology of the men at arms.
