Now we all know how great HBO's Rome was, but one thing that is never ignored in documentaries, and that every American knows of, is that ancient glory of Khemet, or Egypt..

Theres only really been one movie to properly celebrate Egyptian culture, the 2 Mummy films, and I think it's a shame Egypt doesn't get it's own Gladiator or Troy, or what have you.

So do you think we will ever see something like a drama on ancient Egypt? Theres plenty of historical information to have one on, like the Hyksos invasion and the Egyptian resistance, the life of Rameses II or Tuthmosis III, I mean the bronze age is portrayed as so .. empty in most documentary or docudrama presentations of ancient Egypt, this is of course due to the fact it's not a big budget film or TV show, but I think it gives people the wrong idea of how life was back then.

I for one think it would be absolutely epic, and in the same way Rome did, help us connect a bit more with our the grandmothers and grandfathers of our civilisation.

Not every film was made in the last 10 years, y'know?

As it is, Egypt simply isn't as famous as Caesar's Rome. Plenty of information on the Hyksos? I was under the impression historians can't even decide what race they were or where they came from? Or am I thinking of the Sea Peoples?

Btw - "one thing that is never ignored in documentaries, and that every American knows of" - maybe check that sentence?

I actually pitched an idea to the history channel for one before ROME even came out but they thought it would be too expensive and weren't into doing a series, perhaps I need to repackage it and head on over to either Showtime or HBO now that they only have The Tudors for historical drama between them.

Season 2 of Rome was a serious problem for the makers: couldn't get enough funds! So I don't know whether it will have that much succes to make more series about ancient times.

How popular was Rome, exactly? On TWC, sure, but a bit of a biased base to survey. Rising costs + not that popular actually = no spinoff.
