    Default Reconciliation and Cardinals

what is the best way to get reconciled. ive found that simply asking the pope for it doesn't really work. once you'r excumunicated its a vicius cirkle. i had alot of truble and was finally saved when the pope died but thats not optimal way of doing it.

what is the best way to make your priests cardinals?

If I am not mistaking, the AI always gets reconsiled when they lose a battle, or when the pope dies. You could try assasinate the pope, or pay a large amount of money. Otherwise try to lose a battle, maybe it'll work, but I'm not sure.

+ kill your king (hmm though that might be harsh)
+ kill the pope (not very religious)
+ diplomacy (though it sometimes wont work, especially if the pope is allied with one of your enemies
+ wait for the pope to die in his bed

or just dont give a damn and use your freedom to conquer any idiot who the pope felt obliged to protect.

    and then

    KILL THE POPE for reconciliation

It's not when a battle is lost, it is when a battle is lost and the offending Faction Leader dies in the battle.

Other than killing your king, killing the pope or paying a hefty indulgence there are really no other ways to be reconciled.

Then it'd be time to rethink your strategy - pissing all over the pope in the first place aint too good idea if youre weak.

Exactly. But the stronger you get yourself, the less important the pope will be; especially from the moment you are able to successfully wage war on several fronts without straining your resources too much.

Well, some poeple say that urine acts as a disinfectant. Maybe you can trick the pope into believing you pissed all over him to prevent him from getting sick?

If that doesn't work you can tell him that urine can be used for a variety of things. Like producting gunpowder and the production of dyed textiles.

In Rome you can target your own faction's characters by using the Alt button. Maybe that works in Rome as well?

Together what you're saying makes sense, alone - little of it.
    Let me put it straight.

    You get immediately reconciled if:
    1) your faction leader dies.
    2) pope dies.
    3) you get enough beating from other factions.
    4) you earn enough papal favour.

points 1) and 2) are obvious to ensure. For 1), just send your leader alone against anything and make sure that thing charges his unit from left. For 2), train up a single assassin (on priests and diplomats that wander everywhere) and have him planted near Rome. Popes typically make easy targets because they usually suck at all attributes except piety.

To ensure 3) or 4) works, it is trickier. Basically working towards 3) alone is hard for a player, because the Pope would reconcile you after you lose 2-3 settlements along with a few thousand men. Pope then decides you had been "punished" enough. Players rarely allow that to happen though, don't they?

The only alternative for 1 or 2 that worked for me was combining 3 and 4, i.e. giving tons of money to the Pope and when your papal favour is about 8 crosses, losing a single battle against a catholic faction. Pope typically reconciles you then.

if the pope dies and you are at war with the pope, you won't automatically get reconciled. the trick is to get a ceasefire, then assassinate him, then pay him money - bingo, from excommunicated to shining example to alll of christendom in one (fairly expensive) move. and with any luck you will by then have taken rome and given the pope like ireland just to keep him out of the way

I have told you this before i think, but in (1.0 if i remember right) i conquered Rome where the pope was (so he died) -> instant reconcilation and perfect relations as my own cardinal was elected as the new pope.

Dno if it has been fix'd Played 1.0 because i had trouble installing 1.2 - it made the game not work correctly for me.

First step: Have a cardinal in line to be Pope.

Second step: Take Rome and slay the current Pope

Third step: Slay every single Pope that spawns afterward until your Pope is elected.

Fourth Step: Gift him Rome and call a crusade, because you're on the Pope's good list, and everyone else is on his bad list.

The Best way to get Cardninals is to Send Preists into Regions that have a low Calthic ratting.

For instance, There was a Crusade called on Antioch, and i was England, when i finnaly got there, Poland had taken the city.

So i landed on Cryus (that island) and stayed there, and started spamming preists.

    ALL of them became Cardnals...

So i started sending Preists all ove rthe middle east, and soon, i ownded the entire college of Cardnials...

Theres not even Papal election anymore, it just gets automaticly passed from my pope, to a new pope from england... I had pope get elected when he(secretly female...) was only 28 years OLD!

    That was cool....

So... in short, dont get renounced, and send preists to the middle east...

I'm play Stainless Steal 5.1 with fix packs etc etc,

One of the things which being excommunicated gets you is 'Offends the Nobility' for your King = end of faction unless you kill him or the pope off,

    Must hurry

I personnally take it to the point of global domination through the means of training assassins and placing at least three at every faction's capital. Then I start killing off the bishops and cardinals in the Papal College. I continue to do so until only my bishops and cardinals are in the college then I kill the pope and one of my guys is elected to the possition of pope. This way its alot easier to deal with the papal relations. If the pope does something I don't like, I just assassinate him and elect another guy to the possition. Also, instead of full on war with some factions, I just assassinate the entire family of a faction and without a king and no possible hiers, they crumble. I guess when it comes to this game I'm kinda heartless and senister but it gets the job done and makes it easier for me to take over. I usually play as the Holy Roman Empire cuz I like the Germans
