Icon5 what is the point of keeping your priests in castle

    Can anybody explain me please..
what is the point of keeping your priests, spies, assasins in the town or castle?
I have noticed that AI has sometimes up to 3-4 priests in their castles.

Are there any bonuses if I keep priest or princess or spy or assasins with my army?
    Thank you in advance

Spies defend against enemy spies. Others are useless.

I believe adding priest or cardinal to fielded army led by general increases general's deity. So maybe the same happens with stationary general? Or was it only in some other mod?

And as previously mentioned, spy protects your settlement and characters against other spies and assassins.

I also believe it gives a certain 'moral' boost...

I've noticed that the AI factions tend to retreat some of their priests back to their core territory if it gets attacked and places some inside if the settlements are attacked - so you notice them if the settlement falls.

But the AI also uses priests offensively to change religion of other factions (even if they are the same religion!)

    Inside, outside, it doesn't matter.

Spies also defend against assasins, not just spies.

In towns spies can spot other stealth characters, if they are good enough, assassins can kill them, if good enough.

With an Army, spies spot other stealth characters around your General, and of course assassins can takes care of them, or pesky Generals. Priests I believe give a moral boost.

Princess is a diplomatic figure mostly, and I always like to keep a diplomat in a stack.

Adding a priest also slows them down...

I usually set my priests along likely avenues of approach, extending my area under observation. I also attach several to Crusading armies so that they can begin their work as soon as the army arrives.

Methinks it gives a bonus to conversion to your religion in that province.

Actually they are more effective when outside the city.

The point of putting priests inside a city is so you can historically witness the corruption they cause.

Actually, it just makes them easier to manage and increases their piety if the settlement in question has a church, mosque, etc.
