    Default help for historical modding

I discovered that I can change faction relations in descr_strat.txt. So I have done it already, making some alliances and wars starting already in the late era campaign when it begins. Can someone help me telling which factions where historically at war or allied with each other in that time?

I can help a little WRT the Iberian Penisula (though I am by no means an expert on history!)....

Leon-Castile and Aragon could be reasonably allied, as Princess Uracca did in fact marry and Aragonese Prince. These two Kingdoms would lead the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula and signed an agreement about how the land would be split up.... they eventually merged to become the foundation for modern Spain.

Leon_Castile and Portugal could also be reasonably allied, as they fought the Moors together, but their relations declined until Leon-Castile tried to forcefully subjugate Portugal (and failed).

Portugal, Leon-Castile, and Aragon should all be at war with the Moors...

Leon-Castile could also be modeled as having strong ties to France (a marriage by the King to a Princess from Burgandy around 1100 somewhere I think).

Aragon may not start at war with Sicily (but could for the sake of game play), but should be lead in that direction, as they eventually subjugated Sicily (with help).

Leon-Castile could also start with poor relations with England (a little a-historical in 1080, but it would eventually be that way).

Aragon and Portugal could have mixed relations with the Papacy.... at one point Aragon housed an Anti-Pope, and Portugal was constantly bickering with the church about money.

Hope this helps as a start....

I am looking forward to other posters contributions to this thread!!!

    Cheers!

Not sure where to find it now, but Turbo (?) I think it was did a new set of relations that are, in games I have been having, resulted in very historical diplomacy.

I have been using it too... it's solid. I think the thread was called "Real Diplomacy" something or other.

I would like to hear other people weigh in on this though... just for interest sake. I am all about the Iberian Peninsula, but I don't know a whole lot about the relations and history of other factions....

    Cheers!

Many thanks in advance, I also know a little bit of Iberian Peninsula history but don't know almost anything about the rest of Europe. I would like to try playing historically, but that may screw up the game, leading to factions being eliminated very early...
