Roman ambush against Gauls

I once had a really beautiful ambush. I'll explain it here, you might want and try it.

Ingredients:
- About 7 or more units of Arcani
- At least 4/5 units of Praetorian cavalry
- Stupid Gauls
- Woods

Lay your ambush in an area with a lot of trees. Mine was discovered, so if yours is not, don't worry, it only makes it easier.
With the deployement, put your general it the corner of the map. He can't hide, so all enemy units will see and go to attack him. Spread your cavalry in the few hundreds of meters in front of your general (but make sure the enemy wont see them, so spread them out). Then, deploy your Arcani in a way so the enemy will run on them when they want to kill your general. Once they are all fighting (and they will stand very long), let your Praetorian Cavalry charge in.
Then kill them all.

I'm afraid I haven't any.

I'll take a look if I can find some between my screenshots, but I can't garantee.

7 arcani and 4-5 units of praetorian cav is a very expensive and powerful force and can beat almost any AI gaul army on any map...

I have to add it were two armies from Gaul.

One kinda big, another smaller.

Well, you don't need that much either. Now I think of it, I had 4 units Arcani and 3 Praetorian Cavalry. Destroying such an army with only 7 units gives you

Why weren't the Gauls already gone as a faction by the time you got those?

He never said he was Julii, so the Brits and Germans might have duked it out leaving Gaul alone. And sometimes the Julii never get out of the valley.

I was the Julii, but sometimes I make sure a faction stays (a bit) alive, so I can use units of later periods against them. Indeed, you can beat them as well with the early units, but it's kinda cool when a faction is still alive and you know it's just a fly beneath your thumb, waiting to be crushed.
