despondent troops, no rations?

How do you remedy this, i captured a castle from the rebels and my general and his army have been staying in the castle for a few years. Can they not make the castle thier home? I have a few castles and in them all the troops are desperate and weary. One general has had 25% rations for 10 years and i upgeaded trhe whole region nicely. I have made many improvements but his army is still desponent, or desperate now. What exactly do i have to upgrade to fix this? Does a castle not count as a home, do only towns count?

You need to get the religion of the area >=50%. Once you have done this the Turnsaway trait will start to diminish.

... and in the meantime you have to relieve your troops with a fresh army as in a newly taken, religiously unfriendly castle they are on permanent active duty. Cities are less hostile environments, providing R&R for soldiers on site.

Users of later 2.1 or BGRIII versions of supplies can get some limited supplies in unfriendly castles if they are war councillors with state training in logistics.

Forts don't provide r&r or supplies I'm afraid, but it's probably more realistic that way.

Or you can just move the general out to a home settlement. Move a new general in.
