Is there anything we should do to get hooked up before playing campaign? Like reading some history, watching Gladiator movie again after 10 times, or prepare up some scope for our campaign? All concern are appreciated.

i find i get hooked if i really get into my generals/family, and don't just see them all as other units, but almost like rpg characters. but yeh, reading up a bit on the faction you plan on playing can help, but i find that the randomness of the way campaigns end up concluding throw historical correctness out the window, and i get more immersed seeing it as my own bit of alternative history... hehe.
I used to read about Julius Cesar while I was in college. It boosted quiet good MTW I gameplay.
There is nothing you have to do although all that you mentioned are good things to do. The history reading will expand as you play (can't be helped) and if you play with huge unit sizes watching the LOTR trilogy (especially the last one repeatedly) might help![]()
Umm... the movie Braveheart :p ? I got a few flashbacks from the movie as I was playing as England and beating sense into the stubborn Scotsmen. But yeah, reading about history, especially about important people of the Medieval era sets one in the right mood for M2TW.
Watch the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven.
I was going to say, "Just play it." But I like DirtyACE's answer slightly better.Originally Posted by DirtyACE
That said, M2TW does not need help in getting you hooked. The campaign game is an excellent turn-based strategy game, even if all the battles were auto-resolved (like they are in Alpha Centarii).
But the frequent battles are not auto-resolved (unless that is what you want). Instead, they are the best RTS exercises available (with the possible exception of RTW battles).
Its not about getting hooked, its something about the reality of Medieval era that I miss. I mean, I dont even know if a settlement works like a country, with its own coins production. What kind of citizen identification, is there any passport? Will soldier fight like the movie Warlords? Can a general really die hard like Achiles
