The most powerfull cavalry unit in RTW

In my opinion the most powerfull horse-mounted cavalry unit in RTW are cataphracts without any doubts.They are stronger than any infantry unit in the game.Only elephants are stronger than cataphracts.
What's your opinion?

Praetorian Cavalry are pretty good when upgraded, plus they are strong and very fast both at the same time. But cataphracts are awesome if you need to pack a big punch.

I'm surprised to see you're the only one to mention this.

HA's are easily the most powerful cavalry unit in the game, at least in vanilla. There isn't anything they can't beat, as long as you're not sorely outnumbered. If you run out of ammo and your opponent has heavy cavalry, you're dead...

Cataphracts beat Praetorian cav, but chariots beat all cav, I think.

Carefull use of praetorians can outmanouvre cataphracts, but in a one on one cataphracts would probably win.

Chariots aren't used much unless the person is new I think. Many experienced players know enough to keep in mind that chariots are usually a bit over-powered and will keep them out of the game to be good sports and for a better challenge.

They suck versus any type of infatry, even peasants can kill some of them

cataphracts win vs praetorians if they are the ones charging. If they are being charged at by praetorians they will lose.

Didn't play vanilla in a long time, but aren't cataphracts easily beaten by light cav like Equites?

Btw egypt's chariots are quite killing lol but anyone can own cav with chariots if they have at least small skill

they scare other horses

I have defeated an entire army of camel cataphracts with archers and maidens. Cataphracts are actually quite vulnerable if you can use your own troops to the max.

cataphracts are meant to be used with Horse archers since they tire so fast .

that been said at The Battle of Carrhae : Parthia used 1000 cataphracts and 4000 horse archers. To defeat the Roman General Marcus Licinius Crassus
He Cost Rome the GOld Eagle and 20,000 soldiers and 10,000 Captured.
All by a Scouting party Since the main army was off fighting the Armenians

Cataphracts them selves was used to destory the roman 4000 horse,
For the Legion was bomarded by the Horse archers for over 4 hours,
And used hit and run tactics with the cataphracts. Thus giving the Cataphracts the much need rest.
Camels carryed Arrows for the Archers thus giving them a Almost unlimited amount arrows.

Pratorians are really good and overpowered but my favoruite unit is Numidian Cavalry. Catas are good against other Heavy Cavalry when using maces to so they can be a pain indeed

On Topic: I don't think, there really is a "best" unit as even cavalry units have a ceratin diversity among them!

best cavalry unit i guess is British Warlord chariots, best horse unit i would say is Cataphracts or Head Hunting Maidens (maidens beat cataphracts 1 on 1) I wouldn't say cata camels as they are slow and should be used with cataphracts rather than instead of.
