Default Unlimited men on the battlefield

Since you can only have a limited number of troops per stack how do you enable it were you can have unlimited men on the battlefield? I can imagine what it would be like with one whole stack of archers and artillary and another of horses and knights, ohh what fun that would be.

I don't think that's possible, I think unlimited men on battlefield refers to be able to all armies that join up in the battle to join the battle, even if your system specs doesn't stand such number of men of battlefield

"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

you mean in the preferences? that makes it so that you won't get the "reinforcements delayed" message.

in theory you can have up to 8x20x250=40 000 men on battlefield in a custom battle. That's with 8 factions, 20 units with 250 men each. But that's theory, in practice even the best comps cant handle 20000 men. The engine also might not fully support those kind of numbers.

Unlimited men on battlefield means that you can bring the extra reinforcements into battle even when the game thinks your hardware can't handle those numbers. You can't control the reinforcements yourself. Except for the option that came with kingdoms, but I wouldn't call that "controlling" anything..

I have unlimited off and get "Reinforcements delayed?" message on the battlemap with a comment about my system specs; it seems to be based on the number of individual skeleton animations my CPU is computing; as men fall and their animations stop, then more units are available (in reinforcements).

Recent siege battle for Satu Mare had a total of 4953 units in 8 stacks, and all eventually entered the battle before the end, but not all at once at the beginning..

I can tell when my CPU is overloaded with animations because I'll get a slight pause every few seconds, regardless of how low I change my video settings or unit detail; I usually just sit tight if I can while the AI stacks fight for a little while, and as they lose men, the pause stops.
