    Default Siege Issues

Hi. I recently bought RTW v1.5 and then installed PLatinum 1.9.
I'm currently playing the Roman campaign and noticed a few issues when I'm besieged. When the enemy has huge towers, the soldiers get stuck at the bottom and seem unable to climb. Also when the enemy demolish my gates they will wait until all their men using ladders and towers are killed before sending the rest through the gates. This means I can easily win battles when heavily outnumbered by first defending the walls then sending my men to the gates. Are there any fixes for these two issues?
    Thanks

Play a harder difficulty level? Not much else I can say there.

I don't think so. If that's how the AI was created, then I dunno.

All siege towers larger then the small(open) one are likely to get bugged down. If the AI is attacking there's not much you can do about it, but if you are the attacker always make sure you have a couple of ladders in reserve. There's nothing to do about the AI behaviour during sieges, it's hardcoded.

Ai is hardcoded, its behaviour can't really be changed beyond field formations (ie: Darth Formations mod).

    S2Cues,

I play RTW 1.5, so don't know what effect the 1.9 Platinum would have.

I've seen it. Folks have talked about it. No one has offered a complete way to fix it. It evidently happens only when attacking cities with large stone walls. I have occasionally been able to get my guys unstuck by repeatedly clicking on different directions away from the base of the tower, and changing from run to walk and back again, repeatedly. (Don't really know exactly what it is that I do that gets them unstuck.) Someone said that changing the tower docking distance to 12.1 or 12.2 (instead of the current 12.5) will help. I haven't tried it.

The workaround I use is to bring lots of ladders/towers to sieges with large stone walls. Heh, heh, I love it when the AI gets stuck.

I don't know how to upgrade the AI, but I found the solution when one of your own unit is stuck on one of those siege towers. What you do is select the unit and click somewhere on the wall, and they'll try to walk into the siege tower and then walk back, and then you click stop.
There is a delay between the time you click stop (or hit backspace on the keyboard), and the walking units actually stopping.
Now, once the unit is standing still, any of the soldiers standing on the floor of the siege tower will be able to climb the rest of the siege tower.
So, click somewhere on the wall again and those few will start going into the siege tower.
Notice this rule applies with where the soldiers are standing when the unit is completely at a standstill, not where the soldiers are standing when you clicked stop. There is like a millisecond of delay, but that determines whether the soldiers are standing on the siege tower floor or walked back unto the map "ground".
So, in the unfortunate event that a unit is stuck with this siege tower bug (probably with arrows raining down), you can only move a few soldiers at a time, so it might take more than a minute or so (a very long time during a siege) to salvage the entire unit. You have to time when you click stop by looking at where the soldiers will be standing after a fraction of a delay, so that at least some soldiers will be standing on the floor of the siege tower when the unit comes to a standstill, then those soldiers are able to go on the wall. Of course, it's easier to do this with the green arrows feature turned on.

This helpful advice is written to help my fellow RTW players.
