Issue when installing Platinum 1.9 on RTW Gold edition

Hi all,

I apologise if this info has already been given, but here's my problem.

My Gold Edition installs both RTW & BI together (they are both on the one disc. So I install. In each option bar it says in top right hand corner that RTW is v1.5 & BI is v1.6

So I install PLatinum 1.9 Full install.

Icons to PLatinum appear on my desktop. I think yay! it has worked.

Alas NO. I click on the RTW Platinum shortcut on the desktop and the PC says " Shortcut broken - searching for RomeTW.exe". So it searches and starts the old RTW with no modifications.

Please help. All instruction I can find say install patch v1.6, but when I try it says it is incompatable with the Gold Edition.

It seems you are using the mod-switch version?

Copy the original RTW-BI shortcut, and edit the properties, the target should be like this =>
"C:\Program Files\.................\RomeTW-BI.exe"
just change it to
"C:\Program Files\.................\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:RTRPE

The gold version already has 1.6 patch applied I think.

I tried your suggestion and there have been some developments.

1. All pre-game movies do not appear.

2. The menu screen has 'Provincial Campaign' at the bottom, and the Imperial Campaign says 'Please select an item from the list'.

3. When I click on Provincial Campaign a new screen appears saying 'imperial campaign' yet it all seems the same from there - still 270BC, still Julii, Brutii, etc and the same map as before.

I thought the Realism mod was to start in 280BC with only 1 roman faction and an extended map. What am I doing wrong?

1) If you have used the -nm switch as shown in a previous post then you won't see any movies as it's the 'no movie' switch.

2) 'Please select item from the list' is a way to spot that RTR PE was not installed over the correct version of RTW or RTW BI.

3) If you see the original map with the three roman factions (plus the sentate) then you're not playing RTR PE you are playing RTW.

The following is an example of a RTR PE install - it's the full version not the mod switch (I have copied the contents of the previous folder into a new folder then applied the RTR PE patch to the new folder);

Hi! Your RTRPE installation may have been failed.

Check the "Rome - Total War" directory. Where is it for your gold RTW? Does it have the "RTRPE" sub-directory?

Are you using the mod-switch or not? If not, I strongly suggest to download it (the one with smaller size).

Reinstall, choose the correct destination directory.

Oh yeah, there is a RTRPE folder, BI folder, data, miles, saves, temp. No Rome - is that normal. Anyway there is only 4 things in the RTRPE folder.

Yes. It's also recommanded that you have a clean backup of RTW's BI and Data dir - in case they are modified by any other mods.

I have the Creative Assembly-Sega version and as far as I can see when I install the RTW Gold edition there is only a file which says RomeTW - there is not a RomeTW.exe file as in picture above - all other folders seem to be the same. Same goes for BI.exe.

When I try to install the mod-switch it says it must be the wrong version as it cannot find the RomeTW.exe file, but the game works fine in its old state.

What the hell is going on - this is so frustrating.

Oh okay. Well there is another choice which should always work: Extended Realism Mod for RTR Platinum 1.9. No setup - just unzip, copy the "ExRM" dir to your "Rome Total War" dir.

Again, copy the shortcut (the BI one), and append "-show_err -mod:ExRM" in the command.

I think the end .exe doesn't allways show up, you should be able to play PE by just doubble-clicking on the shortcut created on your desktop though.

I myself use gold edition. All you need to do is
1. Install the game from the DVD.
2. Install RTR PE 1.9b(latest version right?) to the RTW directory should be SEGA/Rome - Total War/

It should create shortcuts for running with both 1.5 and BI exe's

Firstly I apologise for being an idiot - I've found the problem.

My install is CreativeAssembly/Rome - Total War and the install on the v1.9 P was set to Activsion/Rome Total War, so I was installing the Mod IN THE WRONG FOLDER - thus nothing happened.

Hope you enjoy! Don't forget to try TIC to id you have'nt allready - it installs into it's own subloder, so you can install it to the same folder as PE without conflicts.
