    Default Sinnead O'Connor

I have an unashamed love for Irish music, particularly, Irish republican rebel songs (some of them are great) and just anything with drums, fiddle and Irish flute.

I figured some might help with the pain I'm feeling after my break up yesterday, thanfkfullly.. I found this and it strangely does.

Just an example of this lovely woman.

Being that most Irish are Catholics I would think Sinnead O'Connor would be one singer they would rather forget (unless they agree with here views on the former Pope).

I've seen it spelt several ways, considering the only other Irish word I had to compare was Sinn Fein, and I know how her name is pronounced, I took a gamble on Sinn. Sorry.

Does anyone know of any more traditional Irish songs shes done?

And we're all off to Dublin in the green, in the green
Where the helmets glisten in the sun
Where the bayonets flash and the rifles crash
To the rattle of a Thompson gun

Oh I am a merry ploughboy and I ploughed the fields all day
Till a sudden thought came to my head that I should roam away
For I'm sick and tired of slavery since the day that I was born
And I'm off to join the IRA, and I'm off tomorrow morn

I'll leave aside my pick and spade, I'll leave aside my plough
I'll leave aside my horse and yoke, I no longer need them now
And I'll leave aside my Mary, she's the girl that I adore
And I wonder if she'll think of me when she hears the rifles roar

And when the war is over and dear old Ireland is free
I'll take her to the church to wed, and a rebel's wife she'll be
Well, some men fight for silver and some men fight for gold
But the IRA are fighting for the land that the Saxons stole.

Me ma used to sing that as a nursery rhyme when I was a wee bairn.

    Actually it's Sinéad.

    But whatever.

    And she's not famous here.

The hell are you acting uppity for man?

I'm just explaining my reasoning behind the spelling, and not my fault you think you're people don't know famous people. I very much doubt she's completely unknown over there.

And if Irish dont do fame, I guess they dont know about Enya or U2 either.

It's not that we don't know famous people, it's just that we don't care that they're famous.

I like Sinéad, even though she's a bit too outspoken for my tastes. Talking about Irish rebel songs:
