"If you don't like this mod, go play another one..."

Although there may be merit and emotion that goes into such a response or implication, I do not like it. We can refute what a poster says, or disagree, or give or own opinions without telling people to basically 'get lost' or 'go away'.

If that's the party line, then fine; however, if a posters preference is obviously for something we don't and won't offer (as I'm assuming this is in response to my query of a poster), what is the harm in directing them to a mod they'll enjoy more because it better suits their desires.

Personally I really don't like it when someone posts, and says "change everything about your mod so it's like mod X". I don't see why it isn't an acceptable response to say "if you like X, perhaps you might want to play X". Which is, IMO, better then the response that critisized said other mod for having too few regions on the greek paninsula.

In fact I'd argue that it will probably do us more good, provided the "go play this mod" is done politely, because they may post and say, hey those guys at RS who realized their mod isn't for me directed me here to something that fits me better.

Either way, I'll go edit my post and remove the offending line.

If this applies to me as well... I tried my best to not sound irritated, but when someone compares EB units or map to RS I tend to go up in flames. This mod may not be perfect in everything, but RS is king in those areas. Feel free to delete/edit my posts if I screw up in some way.

Squid didn't seem to offensive to me, the guy did come in with a bit of a chip on his shoulder to begin with.

One last thing that irks me a bit: Squid, if you could not post in the Dark Green color when closing threads, it would be much appreciated, as Red is the color used by Local Mods, not the Dark Green of the Junior Site Mods.

Well, OK, I can see the point.....it's just that I see this often in response to criticism in another mod's forum, and it kinda irritates me. In many cases, we're dealing with very young people who may lack the maturity to express themselves better. AND, the particular post I had in mind was in some respects correct....the poster just has no concept of how much work it takes to make things 'perfect'.

I'm just asking for something more gentle, I guess. "If you prefer (this or that) you may want to try playing XGM, or EB, or SPQR", sounds a lot better than "Go play another mod, then."
