Default AI standing outside your walls, refuse to siege me

    Hi,

What do you do when the AI just leaves its army outside your walls during a siege? Im sure I put on a time limit when I began this campaign but the AI attacked me and stood outside forever and refused to attack with their rams.

I cant go out and meet them or im dead. What do you do?

    I don't let it happen

You have a couple of options: you can go out there and dish out as much as you can before you get your butt kicked - maybe you'll get lucky and get a heroic victory out of it or you can reload from your last save point making sure you turn the battle timer on (you may have thought you turned it on but if your medieval2.preference.cfg file is set to "read only" it resets to whatever the setting is in the file when you next start the game.)

It happened to me once. I let the timer run out and the fight ended in a draw.

thanks for the help. Maybe my game is bugged or something because the AI always seem to siege me and just stand outside my walls - what a waste of time.
I have the latest patch too.
    I edited that file you said and the line "no_campaign_battle_time_limit = 1" i changed to "no_campaign_battle_time_limit = 0".

I opened up again and reloaded the game but still they just stand outside and there doesnt seem to be a time limit. Whats the usual time limit?

It can take up to an hour if the timer is on. The way to check if it is on is to look just to the right of the radar map (bottom left) and if you see a symbol that looks like the timer is off.

Well if the AI is standing outside MY walls, how can he siege YOU?

In situations like this, I find you can "jump start" the AI into attacking you by briefly opening the gates and then quickly retreating back into the castle.

    yes I see the symbol.
Is there a mod or something that fixes this ridiculous siege AI? Im going to have to auto-resolve and lose a major city because the dumb AI sieges me and does nothing.

I tried the run outside with cavalry and try lure them in. They just send some archers after me and retreat. No chance

You need to right click on the medieval2.preference.cfg file in your C:\Program Files\Sega\Medieval II Total War folder then uncheck the box that says "Read Only" and click apply. Then open the file and redo the "no_campaign_battle_time_limit = 0" change that you did, save the file and exit. Your battle timer will then be on. There should be no need to set it back to read only unless you run the game in a window.

Sorry I forgot to say that the file wasn't read only

If you are playing a mod you may need to change the preference file for that mod as well. If not, I have no idea why it isn't changing for you unless your save point is too close to the battle.

    Default Stupid AI

    Thread merged~Harry Lime

    Hello,

I searched the forums for this question:
The AI is sieging me, and he does attacks me, and all what he does is standing outside the city waiting for christmas.. o.O

I did found much results, but isnt here any for available? They are attacking me, and then, when the battle starts they are defending? wtf?

I dont want to wait for the time limit, I want to FIGHT.

    Thanks for your time :-)

    Regards,
    Gerwim

the onli solution is to load a MOD with Lusted's or darth's or XAI's AI man, you'll find several of them in the "Medieval II Hosted modification" section
30BC: Ottaviano Augusto becomes the first Imperator, in his 44 years of principate he will bring to the empire peace and prosperity!
70AD: Vespasiano is the winner of first great empire's civil war, rebuilding Roman world after the Nero's dark ages.
98AD: Traiano becomes imperator after that the senateman Nerva adopted him,he will start a gold age for the empire getting it to biggest extension!! 117AD-180AD Adriano,Antonino Pio and Marco Aurelio administrate the empire during his richest and most pacific period, with their good administration Rome lives its golden age.
193AD: Settimio Severo wins the civil war started after the death of Commodo starting the Severan dinasty, his heirs will not be as good as him. 252-285AD Rome lives the peak of III century's crisis, onli the emperor Aureliano will be able to reunite the empire breacked in 3 parts and the great reformer Diocleziano will give to Rome militar, politic and social cohesion after decades of caos. 325AD:Costantino rules alone over the empire and christianity is for the first time accepted by the imperial government.

    Thanks.

Well, I was just again under siege, and they did attack me.
The good thing was, when they "started" a battle against me, they did "invade" my city. (They opened the gates with Balista's)

But, they had also towers and ladders, which they didnt use.. Sigh

yeah, I posted a thread like this.

nothing more annoying than Milan attacking your city with a million crossbow men just standing outside your walls doing nothing.

you know if they tried getting through your gates they would get slaughtered in mele yet the computer will auto resolve it as a clear defeat

Did you attack them when they sieged you on the campaign map?

You become the attacker if you manaully attack them. If you want the AI to come inside to attack you, then when the AI sieges your settlement on the campaign map, don't attack them. Wait 'till your turn is over and then when it's the AI's turn, the battle will autmatically start.
