    Default Firebat's officer mini-mod v.01 released for SS 5.1

    REQUIRED: Echad's Icon pack + Fix pack 2.00


    By no means is this an earth shattering event, as it is really easy to mod this.

    Simply place this file export_descr_unit.txt in your SS data folder.
    C:\program files\medieval II total war\mods\Stainless Steel\data

    I would recommend you make a backup of your export_desc_unit.txt file FIRST just in case.

    Since this is my first attempt at modding, I am assuming that there will be some issues. So please let me know what you like, don't like and would rather see changed for future releases.

    This mod also increases the ammount of artillery in a unit (2 ballista is now 4, 2 bombards is now 3, etc.).

    I will upload some picture when I get a chance.

    Edited Version of Knoess's Mod.



    I did some revamping on the officers mod by Knoess, its pretty Awesome. I removed the 'problem' officers and flags. Although it ditracts from Kiev a tad, at least we don't get weird non-flags now.

    Thanks goes to knoess who did all the hardwork!!!! This is his mod, and he has all rights and privileges to it. All I've done is remove the problem officers. There was also a glitch in the northern_captain model, which I've fixed with M2TW default one.

    This should be save game compatible, however since it is adding units ALL PREVIOUSLY TRAINED UNITS in the campaign will have to be re-trained.

    if you don't want to do that: then start a new campaign.

    Sorry about that. It also adds Officer units to most (but not all) units.

    Kinda like a captain for each squad.

    captain for each squad? interesting idea.. does it change any morale for the squad?

    eg: captain dies and the squad suffers morale loss? or captain does not affect morale?
    On your PC, the units seem to perform quite poorly. I think there might be something nearby the PC that is causing this problem for you. You may need a mirror to find out what it is.

    I like it, I will probably have a look. Though I have edited the EDU myself so I'd rather just do some copy and pasting

    Good job, I remember making a very similar mod for DLV once...

    Question: do the missle units have a missile or mele captain?

    Cool idea. Now a nice addition would be a standard carrier who has mre hitpoints than a normal unit and influence on the morale.

    What about a single-hp flag-courier? I read something about Niko's Officer Mod doing the standart bearer stuff.

    It was another mod Allu x, I did it for DLV for 4.0 I think. Then repman took care of the rest.

    On another note,

    I'm surprise you didn't have to change the unitmodel.db files.
    Great job.

    As far as morale issue. Its not affected at all.
    The only benefit for officer is an extra men.
    Also officer should have a +1 armor upgrade to make them stand out.
    And also harder to kill on the field.

    If you want real officer, its all about Niko Officer/Flag mod. But don't get your hopes up.

    Edit: Just finishing reading up on some post.
    If your getting problem editing some unit, or invisible officer.
    You have to edit the model.db files. To add unit to other factor. Which will take a while.

    Editing the models file isn't enough (I think). Don't you have to create new skins??

    As for the morale issues, I'm actually not sure how that works. I DID not edit the morale settings so it shouldn't change anything.

    As far as I know, it is mostly for show. Please keep in mind if you are using this that it is in its first stages.

    There were some units I wanted to add officers too, that simply wouldn't work due to skinning issues.

    Hopefully, KK will implement this with 6.0, and due the neccessary skinning to make it better. I am not a skinner, so I can't be much help there.

    If anyone wants to use this with other mods, Please feel free!!

    And yes I did add officers to (some) archer units.

    Just a small question, i saw in your file that you also have some mounted captains.
    I played around myself with some mounted captians in the past and found that the captains will only use their first combat animation meaning that a mounted captain would not switch to his word in melee and kept poking with his lance. Since i found that not really realistic i didnt use them anymore. Since i only tested a few units did you tried this out for your units and did it work for you ?
    I believe someone in the thread asked about ranged captains, you can use a ranged unit as captain but it will not fire and since it will not switch to his melee weapon in melee this is quitte useless.

    AFAIK, the game uses captains/generals/kings always with sword - be they for ranged units, mounted or spearmen... So having a melee captain for ranged and horse units a good option.

    My question is - can they be made more unique by letting them have their unique weapons, like, for example, the poleaxe-wielding, or spear-wielding captain?

    Sorry should not have said captain as I meant officer, the officer will use the weapon it has by default so a pike unit used as officer will use a pike, a DFK will use sword, Halberdiers halberts and so on.

    That would be nice... An officer should wield whatever weapon he wishes. Captain-officer, I thought they do work alike. It would be very interesting to have some random guys - I read somewhere about the unique appearance of kings and generals as well...
