    Default Plague

Being at war with Spain, I captured one of their last cities only to find out that the populace is rolling in the Plague. . Now, my awesome moorish prince is infected and I don't want to lose him. Can anything be done?
Wonder if exterminating the pop would have helped here? Could I expect the disease in other spanish cities?

There's not much you can do about the plague when it hits. If you keep everything inside the city and move nothing else in, the infection won't spread. If you received a message about the great plague then pretty much all of your settlements will become infected.

The plague hasn't spread to my other cities yet. And since this is a newly captured city, you think I can keep it quarantined by not building road/trade routes??

you will keep it quarantined if you do not move any characters outside.
Roads and trade have nothing to do with the spreading of the plague... in this game.
Oh and being affected by plague doesn't necessarily mean your prince is kaput. Characters affected by plague have a respectable chance of surviving. If you want to make sure he survives, keep saving the game just before ending turns and reload it if the dude dies after the save.
    Cheap but effective.

Does anyone know a rough estimate of how big the chances are of a character dying by the plague. My empires are already very large by the time the plague strikes and I have no clue as to who is affected (apart from the very long list at the start of each turn) and who eventually dies from the plague. I just recruit more generals/agents when needed.

20%-40% chance I think, takes a long time to figure out if they are gonna die tho. Your characters still have the plague on them after the city itself got rid of the plague.

They have it roughly the same amount of time the city does, 5 or so turns. If they get affected later, they'll get rid of it later.

It is best to keep your general out of the city. Usually the general is longer infected by the plague and can infect the city again. I would build a fort and let him heal over there enjoying the nice countryside.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

Moving your characters out of the city when they already have the plague will help their chances of surviving?

No, but if the character still has the plague while the city is cured then he migth cause the city to be plagued again.

Well, you could say, that it does help the general to survive because it prevents the character from reinfecting himself should the city have been infected by him again - or, simply said, you sort of break the "vicious circle of infection".

I'm near sure a character that was in the city will not reinfect it.
I've never seen that happen anyway.

This has happened to me a couple of times in the past. That's why I've made it a habit of always checking the city/castle for the plague before starting the siege battle.

Once i had prepared 4 full stacks to invade north-africa and Iberia....the turn which i had to start my adventure the plague got directly in that province which i kept about 6000 men ready to fight with 4 generals (also the best man, chief of the repubblican army of Venice)
I thought "maybe if i would jump in the ships faster than light...well maybe it will work...the plague won't follow me.."
At the end of turn the ships were just under sicily, near tunisi...the Chief of army and another good general were already dead!!! toghether with about 250 men...when i got to fez i brought the plague there and i lost the third general and others 1000 men in 5-6 turns...other 1000 died in the battle.....
    Well..very bad trip....

Neither did I and I never move generals outside of infected settlements.

It is probably because of the quarantine. Plague effectively cuts the infected city from trade.

If thats the case, then good I guess. However, I wish I could control that with a quarantine city option that would cut off trading. Would also like to spread the disease to my enemy city and kill the armies that way. The campaign game could have used alot more complexities here and there. Would have been fun..like a game of chess.

    Yep, what he said.

I kept 5 cities in near perpetual plague in RTW once, and my spy got the plague from one of them in the beginning so... I felt warm all over. (And my spy curiously lived a long and plague full life. So EVERYONE was happy.)

You can. Get a spy, place him in infected city (or train him there), wait forhim to get infected and then send him to infiltrate an enemy city.
