    i have one question:

i installed chiv 0.96 on a clean RTW:BI 1.6 installation and everything is working fine- but the only mercs i can hire are (in entire europe) norman-frankish mercenaries. In the areas of the byzantines there are no mercs.
On the screenshots i saw many different (crusader)- mercs´, i.e templarknights, and i wonder, why i can´t recruit any of them.

There are a few units available in the inn, but the knights of Templar etc. are not and will not be available to the Byzantine.
A number of units such as the Cuman Horse Archers will be available for all factions in Byzantine lands from the next version on.

hmm okay, but here an example:

In Wales there should welsh-longbowmen be recruitable.

But even if i play England and play 10 turns there are also in wales only Norman-frankish mercs. So theres must be something wrong with my installation or it is a (new) bug.

P.S sry for my bad english ^^

Hmmm, there should be Welsh Longbowmen available at 'Gwynned'... :hmmm: maybe they're just available in the ususal Merc-Pool but I'll investigate about it, when I'm back home!

I just took a closer look to the edb, as it seems, the welsh longbowmen are just available for the Rebs on a regular basis. The player factions can only hire them with a general in Gwynned from the merc pool.

Seems to be intentional... but I'll speak about it with the other DEVs!

I like the idea to offer more mercs. I think it is historical.

But my problem is that i can not recriut any other mercs than the norman- frankish- spearman in the entire world. i tried it 10 - 20 turns but they were the only merc to recriut from the "pool".

You guys miss the point of the different merc recruitment merc-pool and buildings, just as for avoiding merc recruitment for any faction in different regions.

Basil, the 3rd crusade starts at 1189, what is pretty much short before the mod ends (1223). If we put in crossbowmen, and i agree, then they should be on Cypros available to support crusaders in the first place.

Zillion, here is the 0.96 free merc-pool: you see there are a few other mercs in european regions ... a few

I disagree about the crossbowmen in Cyprus for the reason you gave yourself! Cyprus was taken during the 3rd crusade - as you mentioned... before that the island was in Byzantine or at least Reb-Byz hands! I don't think it would be a good idea to allow the Byzantines to recruite both Crusader Inf. or Crossbowmen there as well...
maybe recruitement in the inn would be the better choise.

For the regions provided with merc crossbowmen I'd suggest Italy & France.
For the longbowmen I'd suggest Wales, England and southern Scotland for hiring merc longbows and in Wales as regulars for Rebs and England.

What about mercs on the balkan like bulgars/croats/serbs and others? According Osprey they were very important mercs in this region. Also the turcs became more and more important in asia minor.
Is it possible to include units like that?

Wouldn't Genoese Crossbowmen be a good unit to have as a merc?

Yes, indeed! Personally I'd prefer to call them 'Italian' Crossbowmen but we'll see about that.
