Why won't they settle down? In most of my other campaigns, they settle down, and within 40 turns, have everything east of Constantinople under their control.

They came, Gunpowder came, and 15 turns after that, still havent settled down. They came north of the Caspian (never seen that before), and they keep attacking then retreating.

It's a well guarded CA secret. I think they made the Mongols buggy so that I wouldn't enjoy the game as much.

Seriously, it's rare I see the Mongols settle and effectively expand in any of my campaigns.... I have seen them gather in one big group and just sit there not taking any settlements for 50 turns. I have only seen them as an effective faction in 2 or 3 campaigns. Its a shame really...

    Cheers.

The first full campaign I played, the Mongols took Antioch, then had the entire Anatolian Peninsula within a few dozen turns.

Right now, they got Kiev, which is uncomfortably close (2 provinces) to my empire.

Never actually fought the Mongols before. Any tips?

I have very limited experience fighting them; but have read lots of posts on the subject. The consensus is: try to force them to lay siege, then have spears in the streets, and solid H.I. and crossbows on the walls. If you must meet them in the field, try to outnumber them, and even then, expect great losses.

I was playing as Russia and for 40 turns they did nothing and then in around 15 turns they blitzkreiged and conquered all the Steepes, Kiev, Iasu and every province to Novgorod.

I am Milan, so, I got Italian Spear Militia (which kick a**), and Genoese Crossbowmen. I heard that archers are good to counter cavalry archers. Are Crossbows good too? I have tons of extra cash after conquering Europe. I set up chokepoints with forts there and about 6 Genoese Crossbow Militia and 4 Italian Spear Militia in each. Will they survive against a full stack?

The reason here is... it gives you time to assassinate all there generals coursing them to turn rebel. the reposition_character script is Clumsy.

That happened to me in my Spanish campaign. I had conquered Antioch on crusade and taken Aleppo, Adana, Edessa and Mosul from the rebels in the area, making peace with Egypt in exchange for Mosul. I knew the mongols were coming so I threw up my best fortifications everywhere and beelined tericio pikemen in Antioch, so I managed to have those stationed in every city in the holy land. Mongols refused to attack me so eventually I started slowly but surely killing them off using musketeers, pikemen, and sword and buckler men. You take insane casualties fighting them in the field though because they use huge amounts of cavalry and archers, though they have no real melee infantry to speak of.

Timurids don't screw around though, same turn they appear they usually take a region with all of their cannons and elephants.

    Hmm. Okay.

Also, do the Timurids invade also?

I have never gotten that far.

yeah, they invade in pretty much the same spot as the mongols. I hate when the mongols just wander. I always try to force myself to keep playing that campaign but I consider it a lost cause when the mongols mess up. I'm just going to mod them to enter at bahgdad. I think the mountain ranges mess them up on their pathfinding. Also I'd rather them start wiping out egypt first instead of the turks.
