    Default Reskin not showing

I have recently got into skinning and after doing some tutorials in which I added a few units to the game, I had an idea of reskinning some faction.

I use Gimp 2 to skin the units. However, the changes I have done to the skins are not showing up on the game. For example, I tried to reskin 'gaul warband'. I changed colours and copypasted some textures from other units. Then I saved the whole thing as in the tutorial. Saving overwrote the exiting skin and I had checked that compression was DXT5 and "Generate mipmaps" was on.
Then I went to custom battle to see the reskin. To my amazement however, the warband looked exactly as before. Not a single detail had been changed.

At this point I went back to Gimp and reskinned gaul 'forester warband', 'gaul javelin-something' and 'peasants'.

But to no avail, the units still looked like ginger-heads If you here were so kind as to help me, I would greatly appre(p)ciate your efforts. Your help will be re(p)membered too.

So here is a detailed process of what I do. I might be doing something wrong or have misunderstood something so there will be mistakes.

    1. Open Gimp

    2. Open 'Forester_warband_gaul.tga.dds' and delete all except one layer.

    3. Open 'Barb_gaestae_spain.tga.dds' and delete all except one layer.

    4. Copypaste textures and change colours ie. reskin

    5. 'Save as' => agree to overwrite the existing texture:
    -compression DXT5
    -'generate mipmaps' on

    6. Save completed.

    7. Exit Gimp

    8. Start RTW and notice that nothing has changed

So, all help would be appreciated

To use the unpacker, follow the instructions in the readme. After extracting, go to data/packs/DATA/MODELS_UNIT and copy or cut the folder named TEXTURES to data/models_unit
Did you do this bit first?..

Hmm, well then I'm not sure (don't use Gimp myself) ..

Try renaming the pack file (add an X) it's been a long time since I did this but that rings a bell, I think that stops the game looking in the pack file first.

worst that'll happen is a ctd.

Make sure the entry in descr_model_battle.txt for the unit you've reskinned points to where your texture is.
RIP Calvin, you won't be forgotten.

Do you mean the file in "RTW/data/packs/DATA/MODELS_UNIT/TEXTURES" ?
Should I rename the texture like this:
    UNIT_BARB_WARBAND_LONGSHIELD_GLOSS.TGAX

Make sure the entry in descr_model_battle.txt for the unit you've reskinned points to where your texture is.
I have checked that it points to the retextured unit. Afterall, I have just edited the skin, not renamed it or something.
Here is a screen to show you the situation:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

As you can see, the descr_model_battle.txt shows a unit named unit_barb_warband_longshield_gaul.tga, which is the name of the unit that I have quicly compiled for this screen. You can also see that the edited model is saved in (propably) right place. The tricky part is, however, that the unit I see in the game looks still like ginger head gaul

I appreciate all the help I can get concerning this matter!

No, if you've unpacked the files in Data/packs .. you will have a new Data folder in there.

Move the Textures folder (in packs/Data/models_unit) out into your RTW/Data/models_unit folder.

Then rename the models_unit_textures.pak folder (addx),

So the game will look in the file you moved rather than the packs folder.

    Hope that makes sense.

<= Me while observing the reskinned units in game

So, thank you very much for helping me out. The units now show up in the game and everything works. Now I can begin the process of making some outrageous skins

Thanks once again! Finally I have something else to do than lurk in the internet.

    Cheers
