I believe it is already possible too, at least someone around here has (Brusilov, I think), It might require some tweaking though.
It's simple (I have seen some very complex methods offered). This method was suggested by Maced0n over in the RTR forum
1) Copy the 'RomeRTW_ALX.exe' into your RS main game folder.
2) Copy the 'chat_filter.san' file to the RS data folder
3) Add a shortcut with -mod: at the end of the target
The following is the shortcut target that I use;
"C:\Program Files\Activision\RTW Roma Surrectum 1.5a\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -nm -show_err -mod: -movie_cam

I'm obviously a little late getting into the run RS through ALEX game, but I don't understand. How can adding the Immortal trait (without any triggers that I can see), make my characters die normally? No one in any thread has actually EXPLAINED why giving a trait (one that means you can't die) in the traits section actually makes the characters mortal. And without a trigger, how would they get it?![]()
p.s sorry for bumping this thread, but I really needed to find an answer.

This is purely a guess on my part, but I assume that if the alex exe cannot find an Immortal trait while parsing the trait files, it assumes that all characters are Immortal (seems backwards to how I'd have coded it, but oh well), so by adding the Immortal trait, the exe says "hmm, the Immortal trait will only keep those characters that have it from dying", so when no character has it, they all die normally.
For 1.5b, when it's released, I've added in the Immortal trait, as well as the chat_filter.san file, so RS should be compatible with alex without any modification required.

Does this work, Brusilov?
Okay guys, I'm kinda confused. I read the EB description of using ALX.exe and got it, but does the same method apply to RS? Can someone who already is using Alex with RS explain step by step what to do?That will be helpful for everyone, not only me.
Now, my questions: (Excuse their stupidity, no knowledge of ALX)
1. In order to have the RomeTW-ALX.exe, do I have to actually install Alexander? Question applies to the other file as well.
2. After I copy these files, I add the immortal trait ONLY, just like the 'Alexander EB' thread says. Then mod the shortcut and play? That's it?
3. What's the movie_cam attribute?
Thanks in advance![]()
Yes, it works.
If you follow the copying of the files you can launch a RS game based on RTW ALX.exe (adding the properties to the shortcut).
What happens then is that some characters become immortal - not the end of the world but probably best avoided.
What I did then is use the bits to add the immortal trait as per the EB thread.
I had Alexander installed into another folder. I keep various clean copies of the game in separate folders which are then copied to other folders and then used as a base for a mod. I don't think you can extract the files from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM (if you have those).
The '-movie_cam' switch allows replays to be played back with more control over the movement of the camera.

1) Do you just install Alexander over RS?
2) where is this 'chat_filter.san' file. located? Which RTW/Data/Folder
3) I have no idea what you're talking about. at the end of what target? a shortcut for what? How do I create this shortcut.. right click/create shortcut/rename? Which shortcut do I use(Alexander or RTW) to create the new shorcut or does it matter?Once I do create this shortcut, where do I place it in my RTW folder? I'm assuming I'm just creating a new shortcut to launch the game...?
Just FYI most of my modding leads to catastrophic CTD's at game launch, most of which I cannot fix and have to do a total reinstall, thus the plethera of questions.
Sorry I know some of these have been asked but I'm still quite lost. Please help. I have Alexander Setup.exe at the low ready, waiting to install...

Do you need the alexander cd in the drive to play alx.exe or would it as well work with the rome cd in the drive
Personally, questions like this irritate me, because in the time it took you to post the question and then wait around for a response you could have tested it yourself (twice probably), and not bothered posting. If you happen to not be able to test it where you are, then the amount of time you save by knowing is ~5 seconds, and again you wasted more time posting about it, when you could have been doing something more useful instead.

Retrain armies?
Yeah you know like how in vannila the AI doesn't retrain it just merges. I'm seriously thinking about switching from the bi.exe to the Alx.exe as the AI is much better.
"So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

Im already using it, the AI is much better and you dont have units scattering across the battlefield (so-called "phalanx bug" because it happens mostly with phalanxes). But alexander.exe dont work with some other mods, like RTRPE for example.
I forgot to ask – I think I saw somewhere that using the ALX.exe enables the use of more units in ‘desc_model_battle.txt’? I know RTW is limited to 244. Anyone know what it is for BI and ALX?
