Default Roman Units Manual for Rs1.5 (redone)

When MacLiamLeah came up with his idea to produce unit manuals for the RS 1.5 units I saw it as a fantastic opportunity not only to introduce new players to the beautiful Roman units in RS but maybe to help the established players as well.

Using MacLiamLeah’s work and his initial compilation of units which you may have already seen, I formatted and changed certain aspects of the manual, adding a few things along the way

We must thank the RS team for their work on the Roman units and also for most of the text contained within the manual. I also wish to pay a special thanks to Brusilov who supplied almost all the pictures that are in the manual and did a fantastic job of taking them

I hope you enjoy reading it
Any feedback would be much appreciated

Fantastic, had a look through it.

One thing I've been in the process of making is a map of where legions are recruitable...it was scrapped due to the patch to 1.5 and later, a crash, but this inspires me. I had trouble remember which cities had which legions so I was going to make a spreadsheet telling which city and region allowed for which legions. I thought of making a map but I'm rubbish, and the maps in the Important_Stuff folder don't really help.

Has anyone else made a spreadsheet?

Well the areas that legions are recruitable are in the guide so you could use that information and stick it on to a map

Look forward to seeing it if you do

Great initiative, MarcusTullius, and nicely carried out!

Ever heard of the Unit Card Project for EB? Seems like you got a like-minded soul in Arkatreides there. If you haven't checked this project out already, you might find it inspiring to do so. Here's the link:

well i knew his work, i've played a lot EB, and really liked his cards.
But the whole idea of this manuals was, i could read some of the history
in rtw/rs when not behind the computer. And on the cards isn't much reading, therefor i'm very thankful to marcus tullius for adding a lot of historic facts to the manual. ( btw. we are still learning and things in the future will be even more "amazing" ; at least we think it will be )

Nice, an excellent job, I think the idea of unit cards for RS is a pretty good idea and I would be happy to lend a hand in anyone is going to start making them.

    Glad you liked it
RS2.0 Manauls should be brilliant- hopefulyl they'll help a player scout out the units he'll be playing with and get some history to go along with it

I actually found out ways to make the hoplite unit formations more useful during combat with different units ... you can use them differently, with different number of ranks and columns

For example, the hoplites can be made into invidual fighters and not a phalnx with one front side by simply deselecting the tight unit formation .. this tactic is good against tight formation infantry like romans !!! also by reducing the column width one can prevent casualties from missile troops !!!

this is why I was eager to find out more about hoplites and perhaps other units and not only roman units ....

but it is so gr8 to hear that RS 2.0 which will probably be better than the best rome tw mod , RS 1.5 lol !!! will have manuals for each faction !!

I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees !!!

    Very comprehensive work.

I can see your work being mentioned in the future on the Roman military / history forums.

    Congratulations.
