    Default The Pity Date Thread

This happened to me quite recently actually; ok, so i'm working away at work as usual (who'm i kidding? i'm webludging, posting on TWC!), when a girl comes in.
Her name's Ana (ok not her real name, but i hafta protect ppls' identities), and she's been hanging around where i work for a fair bit.
Ana has down's syndrome or something, and comes in regularly looking at me through the display windows. Have u ever pictured a girl you would never sleep with ever, even if u 2 were the last ppl left on earth? well in Ana's case, i'd rather eat a bullet and rejoin the rest of humanity than even thinking about doing it with her.
i'm being mean. i'm sorry, but i just have 0.0 attraction for her. she is not attractive to me.
anyhoo, today she asked me out on a date to which i hemmed and hawed, and eventually found it within myself to decline politely.
it still amazes me how close i was to having a pity date with her.

has anyone ever had a similar experience? and how did the date turn out?

Well, when I was a senior in highschool at Prom, I was just setting down minding my own business. I didn't want to be there in the first place, but whatever. This girl comes up to me, I'm sure she had mental problems, she was in LD classes and worked in the Cafeteria, so you know she was kind of off, not to mention she reminded me of an Ogre.

She said "Hey, I don't want to Freak you out or anything....but do you want to dance"

Now, I was never "Mr. Popular" but that would have just made me the laughing stock of the school, and I would never live it down, but I also felt sorry for her. So I though quickly....

    "Sorry...but I have to....watch the coats!"

I felt like an ass...but what are you going to do?

You know you hurt them more for attempting to spare their feelings, so why not go for the whole shebang?

No, never had to do that to girls, as I was one pathetic **** until I decided to work out. But even then, never had to. Most girls just wanted to be friends, and I was more than happy to just let it be that way.

    Once or twice.

I had one girl who stalked me for weeks, and seemed to know lots of little details about my day, every day.
    Was quite impressive.

But in the end, stalkings not hawwwte.
    So she got a no.

Ugh, in high school there was this girl that sat across from me in math class that would stare at me for the entirety of every friggin class. I never made eye contact with her and avoided her in the halls. She finally got the "message". So you don't actually have to say any words.

I would never stare at someone, unless there was a terribly good reason to do so.

Without pity dates I doubt I'll ever get married.

Anyway, this did kind of happen to me twice - first at the end of high school when I was pushing into dating a kinda plain girl in my english class. I broke up with her by pretending I'd pick her up for the prom, then never appearing and refusing to take any of her calls. Hey, only attractive people deserve our respect.

It almost happened in college as well, but this girl (who took the same train as me every day) was truly repulsive - all the boys called her "truffle hunter", "toad" and whatnot. I made absolutely sure not to encourage her into thinking she had a chance with me. So that one wasn't an issue after the first couple of months.

Since then I havn't really run into the problem. Unless a girl could genuinely be called "ugly" I'll flirt with them since it's the polite thing to do, boosts everyone's self esteem etc. and so far it's never gone further unless both of us wanted it to. But then I'm incredibly lucky since virtually all the girls who go to my uni are at least average-lookers.

Moral of this post - if you could reasonably concieve of going out with the girl at some point then there's no need to be standoffish, since the worst that could happen would be that you end up with a nice, average-looking girlfriend. Otherwise I think it's better to have clear boundries from the start unless you want to deal with painful problems later. That's my take, anyway.

I've actually had a girl tell me in a note that she was madly in love with me.

I told her, flat out, "no."

    And that was that.

Face it, actually, killed her, drank her blood and left her body in your basement. For the rats

I had a girl who asked me through her friend, and she was a troll, to be brutally honest, and I admired her less for not saying something herself. I'm no looker, but I still make efforts with girls and if I have feelings I usually say them -- regardless of what happens after usually. I have no confidence, just no shame either

There was one girl who really liked me, and she was a good mate, but I didn't like her back. She kept trying to get with me at a party, so I told her nice and plain that I wouldn't do that sorta thing, mainly coz my mate fancied the ass of of her. I gave her a pity kiss, though.

Oh and I get Myspace and Facebook stalkers. One girl keeps texting, messaging or Iming me with 'Hey, you ok?' which is the one greeting I refuse to respond to, purely because of the boredom the conversation after will posess. My standards are incomparably high

Man, I never get people stalking me on facebook (unless you count application requests). At least not the particular girl I'd want stalking me

Oh, I've had a fair few lookers add me. Its incredibly nerdy but they have so few inhibitions compared to real life. Its so much easier to flirt, coz they know we'll never meet

Well, a few of the closer ones I have, but sshhh. I'm no paedophile.

Seriously, I'm no paedophile. Stop staring.

Some may say it was pity that drove her to my bed, but in truth it was my sexiness and the valore...

I never did a pity date but I had a neighbor I played with when I was younger, around 3-6 years old. When I started going to school, we stopped being friends, because she was found to be retarded.

Fast forward 10 years, I'm 16. Apparently, I find out from people on my street shes being telling everyone for those last 10 years that we were dating.

She then reappeared one day (their family had a housefire and moved), and kept trying to get at me. I had to end up cursing her out, and insulting her to get her to leave. I don't feel bad at all either.

My best friend went to a party recently and had an 18 year old girl with down syndrome hitting on him all night. She found his number through someone else, and was calling his house all night. I dunno what happened recently, I know he ain't gonna pity date her either.

There's a conspicuous lack of detail on the mentally-challenged girls' looks in this post

There's a simple test to determine if you should go on a pity date. Ask yourself: can I hold a boner for her? If the answer is no, don't go on a date.
