    Default Help - Vassal's Last Family Member Dying

    I've got a vassal with only one family member at age 61. I gave them all but one of the cities they own, and their king always dies leaving the cities rebel.

    Could I somehow use the console to change the guy's age or give them another family member?

    Alternatively, would it be possible to edit a file to make people die older (assuming it would affect the current campaign, of course)?

    Thanks.

    any change would not effect the current campaign.
    maybe if you have a safe game 2 or three turns ahead you might let the faction ot of the vassalage together with one or two provinces and they recover...

    Perhaps it is money, i.e., they cannot afford to have another family member?

    Lol

    I think your stuck with the old vassal king. If you let the country out of vassalage wouldn't the king still die destroying the faction?

    Your best bet is probably to wait for the old coger to die eliminating the faction and then quickly swoop in and take their lands that have now become rebel settlements.

    Unpack your files, then in Medieval II/Data (unless it's kingdoms or a mod?) you find a file called descr_campaign_db, open it in notepad.

    Search for family
    <family_tree>
    <max_age uint="90"/>
    <max_age_for_marriage_for_male uint="60"/>
    <max_age_for_marriage_for_female uint="50"/>
    <max_age_before_death uint="105"/>
    <max_age_of_child uint="10"/>
    <old_age uint="70"/>
    <age_of_manhood uint="12"/>
    <daughters_age_of_consent uint="12"/>
    <daughters_retirement_age uint="50"/>
    <age_difference_min int="-10"/>
    <age_difference_max int="10"/>
    <parent_to_child_min_age_diff uint="12"/>
    <min_adoption_age uint="20"/>
    <max_adoption_age uint="30"/>
    <max_age_for_conception uint="50"/>
    <age_of_manhood_close uint="12"/>
    <max_number_of_children uint="4"/>
    </family_tree>

    Edit the highlighted to whatever you see fitting.

    EDIT: As far as I know it does affect savegames, it has worked for me. I was just testing to see without testing any long term effect, it may cause bugs but I am not certain.

    Well then, I guess I should've waited a bit :3

    They're all dead and taken back.
    Thanks for your help though.

    No problem, now you know what may need change for the future. By the way, you see the age of manhood? It can be lowered as well, just remember to lower this too:
    <age_of_manhood_close uint="12"/>

    I lowered it too the same, even though in vanilla it is 16 on age of manhood and 14 on close. Have not caused any bugs. Any characters in the descr_strat between 12-16 at the start may need to be lowered to 11 or they will only exist as a unit icon (they simply won't exist in game). The easy way to make them last longer is simply increasing old age. Hopefully you will figure things out without any CTD
