Apache braves question

Hi all. I'm kind of new to the game and right now I'm playing the Americas campaign. I've been using Apache braves as my main infantry unit, since they are the only one I can get at this point.

But whenever I try to get them to engage the enemy infantry in melee combat, they stand there and try to throw their spears. I have tried toggling Fire at Will off, and I tried pressing <S> and <E> during the fighting. Nothing I do can get them to engage.

How do you switch between missle/melee modes for units with both capabilities?
