Horse Archers

No this isn't a thread about how to deal with them, they are way too many of those as it is. This is about using them. I recently started playing Parthia. I didn't realise how fun they are, every battle is heroic for you, every unit earns at least 1 experience point every 2 battles, all generals have full command and low upkeep because you don't use half the troops your enemy does.

Enough of inflating my ego and plugging Parthia. I'm trying to decide on converting my horse archer armies to Persian Archers. It seems to me they have identical stats except Persian cav can melee and horse archers are faster. Which is better? I'm currently playing on H/H. Any advice would be good.

For Parthia, Persian Horse Archers are superior in every aspect except maybe speed. Persians can melee, have better armor, better morale and better fatigue (I think). Later in the game it is better to have Persians than normal horse archers.

Upgrade now.You will need to have them later anyway, so the sooner you upgrade the better (as they will, as you said, start earning loads of experience)

Build armies as so:
1 general (if possible)
6 persian horse archers
4 cataphract horses
2 cataphract camels

I finally turned to a campaign with Scythia and I'm loving the horse archers on the wide-open plains harassing the stupid Germans who think they can come out there on foot! For some reason I was unhappy playing the Parthians with their horse archers - not sure the difference - but I'm just now going to war, Scythia vs. Parthia, and we'll see who prevails.

I guess im a sort of expert on Parthia, and as u can see from my avatar, theyre my fav faction

. As u said, HAs r faster, persian cav is heavier. so ill ask u this: do u want 2 use HAs as auxilliaries? Then use plain HAs. Or, do u want to build all HA armies and crush ur enemies in an endless succession of glorious battles? If so, use Persian cav. hope this helps
