    Default Lost Eagle

I'm playing a Rome campaign and lost an Eagle to the Thracians at Patavium (Thrace has annihilated Illyria and now reaches from the Adriatic to the Black Sea). The game said that the Eagle was taken to Segestica. I regrouped and took Segestica (mass crucifixion) but didn't receive a message that I had recovered the Eagle. Is there such a message or did I do something wrong?

Another question: What are the benefits to recovering an eagle? What are the pitfalls to losing one?

My understanding is that when a general looses and Eagle (and survives the battle) there are some negative traits picked up.

When the Eagle is recovered some of the negative traits are lost, but not all.

I've personally not been in a position to check on that. I did get several Macedon generals with the 'Eagle Collector' trait.

The general who lost the eagle was killed in the battle. I guess it would make sense that I didn't get a recovery message if the general who lost it is the one who has to get it back.

It would be nice if whoever recovers the eagle got some sort of bonus trait, instead of the eagle just vanishing.

I'm not sure about the traits stuff. But, I was playing on Macedonia a couple of days ago and crushed 3 roman armies simultaneously in one battle near Aquileia, and I got an eagle. When it says that the Romans will want it back, it REALLY means they want it back. They sent all their stacks at the city the eagle was taken back to (I believe Segestica?) and once I took the eagles of those armies after I crushed them, they just sent more. I ended up just crushing all of Rome's armies, which was nice, but sad since I wanted to be their ally =(

So, I'm not sure if as Rome you really have a penalty for losing one or a benefit for getting one back, but it does make a difference as another faction fighting an AI Rome.

But if you have a good army in a confined place like I did(or two, with a city to retrain nearby would be even better), it really can be advantous to have an eagle, that way they fight were you want, and they will keep continuing to fight you there no matter what.
