Punishments for Pedophiles

I know this topic comes up a lot, and that there are a lot of very strong views about it, but I was wondering, specifically, what people think should be done to/about pedophiles.

I'm taking punishments here, so jail-time, community service, etc.

I will add certain qualifiers later, but for now, I just want to hear people's basic opinions...

Well, I suppose life imprisonment totally isolated from other prisoners, where they have to work to pay for their imprisonment and food, and perhaps a noose and stool in the corner of their room if they decided to do us a favour.

Jail time, followed by therapy so they can resist the urge and close surveillance, and they should be required to pay for any trauma the kid needs help with. If they do it again...

EDIT: And I'm not quite sure on this, it's just an initial thought. Gotta think about this for a bit.

i think they should be in general population but in colored uniforms so everyone knows who they are...and prison for life would be nice...but unfortunately unless they get caught with a lot of kids its not that long of a sentence =/ And I think they should have to face their accusers when they get old enough because resentment will always build to some point and if they survive that long in prison then the accusers can confront them in whatever manner they see fit without being punished for they actions during a "fit of rage"=)

Jail time according to the severity of the crime and taking in account any previous offences regarding pedophelia + theraphy.

(but no "special treatment" that others have come up with so far)

EDIT: Ferrets54 pointed out something i had assumed, that the person being punished actualy commited an offence; acted upon his/her pedophelia.

It's strange how only maybe a century ago, people didn't hate paedophiles at all almost. I think it was the author of Alice in Wonderland, I forget the name, who used to like to take naked pictures of little girls. Not only did he never abuse them, he asked permission from the girls' mothers if he could take the pictures, and very few refused. Strange...

I think a distinction should made between being a paedophile and actually acting upon being a paediophile. I think that a paedophile that never harms children (and in this I include all sexual activity) should receive no punishment whatsoever.

Castration, life imprisonment, and marked as paedophiles so the other inmates will rough them up frequently.

If my child were the victim; however, I would wait outside the courtroom with a pistol, and I would just end the miserable beasts life myself.

How would the age of the victim factor into it? Would a pedophile who abuses a teenager deserve the same punishment as one who abuses pre-teen, pre-pubescent children?

depends on how serious a pedophile we are talking about. someone who has never laid a hand on a child, knows they have a problem but just cant help looking on the internet should be helped where possible

Removal of sexual organs and being bound as a slave to forever serve the child in question. All the persons assets are transferred to the child in a fund for when he/she reaches adulthood. The person effectively becomes the childs property and recieves death if he disobeys any order given by the child.

Okay, can we please leave discussion of Mohammed (or any other historic/religious/ficticious/mythological figures) out. They are/were products of different times, and it's not for us to judge them with our modern sensibilities.
