Default City with HUGE squalor after reaching 100k population.

In my Abbasid campaign, after Baghdad reached the 100,000 population mark the squalor seems to increase by TONS each turn, I have to put an almost full chivalry governor(who isnt helping much since he is still helping to increase the population) in the city with daily horse races in order to keep the people happy. I hate the idea of letting it turn rebel and exterminate the population since it will destroy a lot of building.

So my questions are, is this put in game intentionally to keep city from growing too huge? Anyway i can keep the city in check after my governor dies?

here is a picture of the problem

That's whats good about the Aztecs in the Kingdoms expansion. If your pop gets to high just sacrifice half the population.

    Srsly though, that really sucks.

I always build buildings that help increase populations first(farms, health bonus, entertainment bonus etc) and put a good chivalry governor in baghdad since it helps generate more cash. Baghdad has really fertile lands(3% i think) with a huge population from begining of the game, not to mention it generates A LOT of cash so it helps increase population too through trade. The population just keeps growing, and growing, and growing...

i think cities growing too big or too fast is an issue that is being addressed. You could plant a bomb in a reverred Shia mosque and then let the inhabitants sort it out for themselves? God will know His own.

But i've found there is nothing much that can be done, unless you keep plagueing it or let it rebel and then exterminate.

No game engine exploits pls! a real leader would never do that, he would, if I was him enslave the population and make them clean the city up, but that isnt possible

Don't spies in your own cities help keep the people in line?

Put like 10 spies in their and see if it helps.....

I don't think thats an exploit. In real life if a city rebelled against its former ruler, that ruler would often punish the inhabitants upon retaking the settlement.

I don't really see that as an exploit...besides, if it does rebel, if he simply occupies, it will rebel again...

I wonder how much cash you could get from sacking it..

Please let it rebel and show us pic of the sacking, then just load game so it actually didnt get sacked! Please!

It's an exploit to let it rebel on purpose to exterminate it so population shrinks.

BTW a rebelling city can be conquered normally and held if you have a big garrison the first 5-10 turns.

Honestly that sucks but there is a way to fix it. Although cheating is against house rules, in your situation it would help you. Do add_population Baghdad -20000. That would remove 20k from the city and you could do it at any number. I say until it's fixed by the team in the next patch that is an option to resort to if you don't want to lose buildings.

Oh sure, I guess if you yourself encourage it to rebel it could be seen as an exploit, but its ridiculous to say that exterminating/sacking a rebellious city is an exploit. Its based in history afterall.

Yeah you're right that a captured settlement can be controlled without sacking/exterminating, but you don't have to.

Can't propose much of a solution for you now, besides those obviously nefarious things already proposed.
Keep your population growth in check from the beginning, high taxes really inhibit growth. :hmmm: Else, don't build farms. They don't provide much of a bump really to income anyway, once you get to empire 5k from farming is moot.
That's how it was for me anyway, ERE with all of Anatolia conquered, 90% of my provinces had level 3+ farm buildings (often ended up as the only thing left to build in a province), had about 5672 income from farms. Meh.

    EDIT
Holy crap I just noticed, how did the ERE get that-.. province that I can't remember the name of, next to Ayyubid?

They send a little boat with brave greeks and attack the oasis. It's a natural part of the AI path of the ERE.

I have the same in Constantinople, it has 100,000+ population and suddenly started revolting, when I looked it had huge squalor levels. Like zero0609 I also don't want to sack my own city, but there's no way to fix the problem otherwise. If I max taxes they will revolt and possibly go rebel, if I continue on the half-revolting low taxes course the city keeps growing and revolting every now and then. Income is quite spectacular though, I make 14500 from Constantinople trading the Black Sea and Mediterranean.
